Hello! Chris Crossland - Ropes Of Maui

Hey everyone.

It's been forever since i could pump out something decent. Took a veeerry long break, as i couldnt get into a good groove, with work and all. This is just a sample, i havent finished it yet. It's 2:40 in length right now and havent eq'd it. I just wanted to see what you guys think of it so far, as i feel like im not going to finish it and not produce anything for months lol. Maybe give me some inspiration to keep me going!

Anyway, here it is.

Watch out for the low end mate, it is causing distortion, I know it is a sample, but just in case you didn't notice.

the intro promises a nice tune, it definatly has potential. though the first "dreamy melody" gets a bit repetitive.. i would want to hear a big climax with a new melody, add some pads that sound very warm.. maybe add some trancy arpeggios and this tune would be a banger man. would be interesting to hear what you can make of it. dont give up, maybe sent me the pack when its done for a remix.

good luck mate.

Interesting little loop going on there. Could do with a bit more variation/chord progression earlier in the track.

Overall sounds a little muddy. Especially on the stabs, I would like to hear them breaking through a bit more. You could also put some delay on them to dive a dubby feel to them. Could work nicely with the laid back vibe the track gives off.

Didn't get a chance to listen too much as on lunch break. Towards the end I got the impression that the bass sound was hitting same time as the kick causing a slightly distored sound. If that's the case what you may want to try is to duck the bass frequencies that are shared by the kick so that it gives the impression that they still hit at the same time but they actually get a bit of headroom split between them.

Nothing really stuck in my mind in terms of percussion but I take it that as it is a work in progress we will see more of that later.

I liked it though so would definately be up for hearing a more complete version.

all the best
