Dunno Public Transit Etiquette

My day started with me running late as per usual.. on my way to school the bus was pretty full so full that someone grabbed my ass and i couldn't even turn around to see who it could've been... i'm obviously less than impressed at this point, as if monday mornings aren't bad enough... then the woman who's behind me is literally up in my grill falling on top of me and shoving.. which just aggravated me even more. Trying to avoid conflict i try moving so she would notice that she was was invading my personal space yet this bitch keeps on going at it... i'm beyond frustrated and decide to say something:
'Listen lady can you stop pushing me, you are literally falling on top of me.' to which this crazo replies with screams calling me a 'spoiled little bitch', 'what makes you think that you're fucking special?' So I'm totally just waiting for this crazy bitch to punch me out, she's still cussing me out causing the biggest scene... I am:
1. speechless
2. appalled
3. in desbelief that this was actually happening
4. WHOA!
5. NOT being able to DEAL!!
so as she still calling me names i reply with 'Just don't fucking touch me. and you're fucking WHACK lady. get a grip of yourself'. she starts yelling again, i turned my tunes back on, turned my bag so it would give me a little more space away from this whack job and for the rest of the bus ride i was just waiting to be physically assaulted, which thankfully didn't happen... regardless this way way WAY too much action on a monday morning...

i'm not sure if i handled the situation in the best manner... so i'm just wondering how else i could've gone about dealing with this... i'm sure people deal with incidents like this on the subway, streetcar, bus, go train, etc, every day... whatever happened to public transit etiquette?! FUCK......!

Carry a taser in your purse. In these situations, it accomplishes so much more than words will ever be able to.

sorry to hear that you week started like that

I personally deal with crap similar to this every day
my bus is usually so full in the mornings that people stand by the bus driver and can't move back
what pisses me off to the point I swear at people is when the bus empties out a lot by the time my stop comes up, and people continue hanging around at the front of the bus, failing to move back and find a seat, or at least to stand by the back door
I lost count of times I got backpacks shoved in my face when I'm sitting down and people just loom on top of me

you could have reacted much worse, so cudos.

there really was no reason for her to start yelling at you when you told her not to push you. sometimes older people think they deserve respect when they themselves don't have any respect for others.

you get all kinds on public transportation. Just ignore her and dont take it personally. Shes probably a mentalist.

I guess some people just need to realize that there is no such thing as personal space on public transport.

ill never forget the time some lady screamed at me to turn my headphones down. It didnt even start with "Excuse me... could you.... "

No... this lady was fanatical. I just laughed at her and continued listening to my DJ Sneak tape while she continued to blow a gasket. It was actually very sad and funny at the same time!

After awhile i got sick of dealing with these mentalists so i bought a car!

Moral of the story. Want peace and quiet and lots of space? Take the car!

thats the cost of peace and quiet i guess. Util those costs can be realized the comprimise is dealing with nutjobs.

Its not a big deal as long as you dont take these idiots personally.

Actually i kinda miss the entertainment value of watching the mentalists get scared of their reflections in the windows. LOL!

lordy....rant away. its good to let out frustrations!

i was on the subway one morning going downtown, so how packed it was everyone understands. I had my bag on the floor beside me. This lady kept tripping up in my face so I keep moving AGAINST my friend at the door. She keeps coming closer. I finnaly say "excuse me. can you please stop leaning so close."

she replies "well your bag [which is between my friend and my feet] is in the way too."

my comment "where would you like me to put my bag? In the imaginary compartment above our heads?" and I turned my back on her.

which some of us can't afford! so take your head out of your ass Jay!

and it's very heard not to take nutbags like that seriously, I mean is it that MUCH to ask for some peace and quiet?

argh, and what's this new trend when people play music of their phone on max. volume?!

Posted by NuERA on Mar-31-2008 15:38:

packed buses are the worst by far!

Well if you cant afford it then you have to compromise by sharing space with others that may not share your belief system of whats rude and what isnt.

Its very easy to not take nutjobs seriously. Unless they actually get violent they are harmless and actually quite funny to watch.

And i do believe it is too much to ask for peace and quiet in any space that is public unless its a library. People by their own nature are noise creators.

The problem is backpacks.

When you get on a bus or subway with a backpack, you are not aware of who's face it's in and whose personal space you're taking up.

Backpacks should be removed when entering a vehicle, and set down or low where most people are narrower than their upperbodies.

Problems like this were much less frequent until backpacks came into fad.

..i'm going to have to agree with Jay lol.

You just have to deal it with it. That's how public transportation is and will be, especially with these continuous labour re-negotiations.

There's no budget for added services...

If you can't deal with the people, then take a car/cab/other forms of transit...

I was living in Montreal one summer and on my first day there, I decided to tour around the city a bit. I was on an extremely packed bus and a guy was standing really close behind me. I thought he was a bit too close, but then I shrugged it off because there was no room at all to move. A few seconds later, I feel him rubbing his cock against my ass. I freaked out and told him to fuck off. Then a big guy gave me his seat and threatened the creepy dude.

Ugh.

see, if it was the other way around...the guy would've enjoyed it!

You girls just need to lighten up a little and find the positive of each situation
