-- Earth hour-

Earth hour-

So this past saturday was earth hour. from 8 - 9 pm everyone voluntarily turned their lights off for one hour to measure the impact it had on teh electricity grid.

Ironically enough the result was * drum roll * the entire grid for Orleans (an ottawa subburb) failed at 9:01 PM as everyone in teh damn city turned their lights back on simultaneously.

anyone else participate?

Surely enough, I did .... I went to bed at 8pm and had every single possible electronic appliance of mine in OFF mode.

lol... I was playing Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance that hour. Totally forgot... But it was worth it..

I turn my lights off when I go to sleep. That's my 8 earth hours.

While it was a great idea i think it would be better if they asked everyone to go without lights for 1 hour at some point during hte day as opposed to everyone doing it at the same time. power grids cant handle instantaneous load spikes like that, it tends to break things

I would have had I not a million things to do that hour...
I was actually looking forward to participating too.
I always turn off all things I'm not using anyways so I don't feel bad.

LOL!

Ah come on, that would have been romantic and all that stuff...

Hopefully you didn't complain during the date...

I wake up at 8pm to go to work, so I turned everything on at that moment

lol, reminds me of a scenario in the original SimCity game where everyone flushed their toilet simultaneously after the superbowl and the nuclear reactor exploded.

Fuck no I didn't participate. Like I'm going to turn off the power with a Battle of Alberta hockey game going on! Hah!

I don't think I ever see the light of day. Go to work at 6:30, come home at 6:30, eat, sleep, repeat.

I was at my grandparent's house and we turned off everything but the TV and a lamp or two.
