I'd be going to this too if I was in Toronto. You can hear techno at a club every single weekend. It's not every weekend you get to party in The Science Center!

Posted by Jem_hadar on Mar-31-2008 21:30:

1) Whether I think I'll be a night of pure proper HARD techno (not minimal or only some harder bits).

2) Seems like a rare occaison not sure I wanna pass up... a rave-like event again at the science centre!! (not since 10 years ago has this happened...)

(and partying with Little Hulla again would be really great and fun too, but its not the major pull for picking science center rave over mull)

I can always count on Graham!!

Wish you were present, bro. Rocking this out with you would be great!

Have fun! Hopefully it's as good as the one held there years ago!

I will be at Toika Bar bringing Tribal back to Toronto with DJ Bliss.

Jamie, come see the new place and have a pre-jam dinner

cool that they managed to get it, and I have some friends playing, but not impressed with this event at all. If you're going to do an event like that, you need someone that actually KNOWS how to throw an event like that

Although I would still go if I was here, I agree with you about the promotion thing. This party doesn't seem to be well promoted at all.

"Yuri's Night is an international celebration held on April 12 every year to commemorate the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and the first Space Shuttle launch on April 12, 1981. In 2004, people celebrated Yuri's Night in 34 countries in over 75 individual events. Locations have included Los Angeles, Stockholm, Antarctica, the San Francisco Bay Area, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and the International Space Station.

The goal of Yuri's Night is to increase public interest in space exploration and to inspire a new generation of explorers. Driven by space-inspired artistic expression and culminating in a worldwide network of annual celebrations and educational events, Yuri's Night creates a global community of young people committed to shaping the future of space exploration while developing responsible leaders and innovators with a global perspective. These global events are a showcase for elements of culture that embrace space including music, dance, fashion, and art.

Yuri's Night was created by Loretta Hidalgo, George T. Whitesides and Trish Garner. The first Yuri's Night was held on April 12, 2001, but its counterpart, known as The Cosmonautics Day (Russian: День Космонавтики, was established in the Soviet Union in 1962.

The 2004 event in Los Angeles was attended by over 100 prominent space leaders including author Ray Bradbury, space tourist Dennis Tito, X-Prize founder Peter Diamandis, *NSYNC's Lance Bass and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from the original Star Trek series). The event was followed by a large party with 2 dance floors and world-class DJs.

The 2007 event in the San Francisco Bay Area was located at NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA. This particular instance of Yuri's Night, while notable for the quality of the artistic installations, technology demonstrations, and DJ music continuing through dawn of the following day, further distinguished itself by taking place in an aircraft hangar of a national research park that is otherwise not accessible to the public.

Yuri's Night is a Space Generation Advisory Council event."

NICE BAKI!!!!

That got me more excited for this party!

Posted by Jem_hadar on Apr-03-2008 15:01:

So being as i dont live in TO, I would have to do WILLCALL to get the $20 advance tickets off Wanttickets.com...

Should it be fairly straight forward to get tickets this way when arrive at the door with my creditcard in hand?

'Picking tickets up at the venue' options often leave me skeptical about whether it'll be organized and easy to get them and get in, or if it'll be complicated and a real headache.

(man, wish i lived in TO, woudlnt need to have this concern then)

Posted by Jem_hadar on Apr-04-2008 21:14:

Updated!

And LINK to buy tickets online!

( but f*cking prices have gone up to 30$ from 20$!
UGH ... why oh why didnt i just buy yesterday!! :S )

for a party not well promoted (in the music boards/scene) they seem to be doing quite well. i've been monitoring tickets sales and they're sold out at most of the outlets and i'm guessing the final batch is on sale right now on wantickets. there are a lot of ppl who keep up-to-date with newmindspace events and that was probably enough. keep in mind this not a music event but a commemoration of yuri's achievement.

yes, jamie you can put me down +2

Posted by pyrotix on Apr-05-2008 00:36:

Re: promoting, we haven't gone all out because our capacity is capped at 1000 by the Science Centre and we are almost certainly going to sell out of tickets.

Arrive early!
