Rank Your Top Parties.

Thought this would be interesting to see where people ranked their WMC events next to each other. No need to go too deep. I'm thinking 3 to 5 should be good. Here's mine:

1) Sasha & Digweed Yacht - this overtakes armada for me because of how unique the experience was.

2) Armada @ Parkwest - I really wish there weren't problems outside so that more people could have experienced this. Armin's enthusiasm alone would have gotten this on my list, not to mention Markus for 5 hours!!

3) PVD @ Space - The man himself laid it down proper. If I could have physically handeled a little more of Sander on the Terrace, this might have risen a spot for me.

4) A&B @ Nocturnal - Weird setup and only 2/3 of the group kept this from being better. Still a terrific night!

5) Saw party @ Shine - Audiofly ripped it and Satoshi Tommeii brought the house down. This was the perfect first night of WMC for me.

Deep dish @ space on Saturday. Was dancing for 6 hours straight before I made it to the terrace! Pete tong on the terrace was wayyyyy better than I expected. Pleasant surprise. Only saw like 5 min of sultan cuz i was jammin so hard to deep dish downstairs

All the parties I went to were great this year, luckily. But here is my top 2 list in order:

1) PVD & Sander K @ Space. Words cannot describe how incredible this night was, if U were there U know, if U were not, oh well. The set PVD dropped & vibe in that room reminded me of when he used to play the old Space in 2000 - 2002. The little I saw of Sander K was better than anyone else I saw on the terrace between Wednesday & Friday

2) Thursday @ Space. SVD had the set of the night, dropped it techy, hard & nasty just how I like it. Easily played his best set @ Space as of yet. Corsten started too soft, but only because it was after SVD as he played the same style as in his Trance Energy set which most people enjoyed. But the contrast was noticeable and he should've started harder IMO. Still was good and luckily he played 4 hours, picked it up and completely redeemed himself big time in the last 2.5 hours when he did bang it out properly. The terrace that night was on fire, with Prydz showing he belongs on the terrace more regularly. Although I did not stick around for Guetta, many people have told me he was good also

Honorable mention: Markus Schulz @ Armada Night. I say this with nothing but respect 4 the other DJs there that night, but this party should have been named "Markus Night" IMO

1) Hope Recordings... overall vibe, set programming
2) Lawler @ Parkwest... dark and dirty
3) Howells @ Set... 3 hours of bangers back to back

1. The Odyssey - Ghostly International Yacht Party
2. Sunday School

from what I heard from friends who stayed longer than me, I think Cheap Sunglasses would've been #1

Posted by llavoe on Apr-02-2008 05:14:

oh I heard he was on the boat from someone.

Posted by rudeflame on Apr-02-2008 06:34:

Richie was on the boat and partying with people...

its really hard to say which event did it for me...ok im bullshitting

any event that starts with "my name is david guetta and i will be your dj for the next hrs" wins it for me...only dj that thru down federico franchis cream and freeek like me...he went into some electro for 2 hrs then some trance tracks mixed with tribal...he did it all perfect blend...plus i saw an hr and a half of prydz who KILLED it...i mena ripped a new one...def sent chills down my spine

so

1) guetta/prydz
2) odysssey boat party Par & Matthew Layed it down
3) patch park & sander k (i prefered patch park) (btw pvd rocke dit...i have and will always say hes overrated...but when he came on...man he was feelign it in the booth -- i really like him when he plays harder)

worth a mention nikki beachs welcoem to miami party was really gd...chris lake/tiefschwarz did bangin job & sci tec party was really gd and the electro at the mstrkrft/boysnoize/ficherspooner was super good...i loved morillo too but my friends kinda got tired of him (i didnt)

big disappointment was the lawler party and sos event at pawnshop...i showed up at both of these expecting soemthing more...and was let down by poor attendance and crappy layout...maybe lawler got better

i mean shit i went to 15 or 20 parties during the week and i could point out goods and bads with all of them

but DG ROCKED ROCKED ROCKED THE SPACE TERRACE...fan or no fan...everyone was dancing

and best song i ever heard durign conference came form richies set at nocturnal...it was a track that went bum bum bummmmm bum bum bummmmm...the beat was so simple but so different...i loved it

1) SOS Tikki Party - The vibe, the experience, the music, all top notch. Listed really brought it with all their parties this year.

2) Steve Bug Tikki Party - Lee Burridge showed up at the last second dressed in drag. My friends started passing out fake mustaches and even got the captain of the boat wearing one. That pretty much sums up the vibe at this party. Bug was top notch as always.

3) Kompakt @ Pawnshop - Ewan Pearson played a good opening set, Gui Boratto blew up, and Radio Slave leveled it. Couldnt stay for Konrad Black unfortunately as I had to get to the Tikki boat. I cannot say enough good things about Radio Slave though - one of my sets of the conference for sure.

4) Dare to Open @ Love Hate - Got to see Phil K for the first time ever and was blown away. Opencloud brought it for 3 more hours after.

Drumcode, Sex On Wax/Canada, and the Tuesday Proton party were also great. A little disappointed with the Hope party on Saturday actually, but seeing Jody in the lounge was the redeeming set of the night. I don't think I really like Shine too much.

1. Armada@Parkwest - got to hear every song i wanted to hear.. lots of room to dance ( met the girl of my dreams!!!)

2. Anjunabeats@Nocturnal - first time hearing above&beyond.. wish i had more kick and bounce in my step to keep goin..

3. [email protected]. - hearing all 4 djs play all at once was astonishing ( i think it was four) tommy lee was insane!

...would have more but had very low budget --- i guess ultra would count as my fourth but thats not really a party (festival)

next time.. plan to buy at least 10 tix to parties!!

Posted by Ripp on Apr-03-2008 02:12:

dude no lie.....

best wmc ever??? im gonna say it was...whats everyones feeling

Posted by Slylee on Apr-03-2008 15:43:

It's always gonna be different for everyone obviously. For me, the best WMCs were about 4-5 years ago. Im from South Florida and Ive watched the crowd and circumstances around the parties slowly deteriorate, but whatever.

Posted by stevsto on Apr-03-2008 15:56:

for me it was my best conference yet. and it was also the cheapest. i think i only spent $200 from tuesday to sunday (but i slept for free in various friend's hotel rooms, i only slept maybe 8 hours total the whole week)

mathew johnson rooftop party (roam) - clever use of volume, very subliminal use of audio, gets into your psyche, while at the same time having a trance euphoric feel. tricked my way in for free (im starting to get really good at this). really nice to be able to do K out in the open while snuggling with a girl on those waterbeds.

free parties at catalina and president

spent the entire day, from sunrise to sunset at ps14 (i think it was called cheap sunglasses, they handed out cheap sunglasses to everyone). this was a really good party because the music just had something to it that made you want to stay all day. it wouldnt let me leave. except for magda, she made me leave. it was like a mini-conference for the minimal scene, got to talk to all kinds of producers/djs in the scene ... one guy (forget his name) wrote his own software to use the nintendo wii controller to midi control his ableton - he refuses to sell it to anyone.

THE AM ONLY PARTY AT KARU AND Y ... best party of the week. that was truly something else. how is it that every dj played much better than they usually do, one after another? it was almost like the whole night was scripted or practiced beforehand, it just went eerily so smooth and perfect, except for the fire marshall bs of course. we just couldnt leave the jungle, it was so perfect out there, the trance and house rooms were great but the techno "rain forest" took it to another alternate dimension level of reality.

Club SKY. This is the nickname we gave our own party we threw on a friend's rooftop. She lives in a really phat condo north beach area with a view of the entire city. residents are allowed to hold social events at the pool/hottub/rec center on the roof. we set up our gear and went nuts. what started as 7 close friends grew to about 20 from people calling people.

The bad:

fire it up with eddie halliwell. garbage. sucked so bad. want my $30 back.

deep dish at space. this was OK actually. downstairs the music was so horrible and repetitive. so crowded. so many snob attitudes from the regulars and scenesters. im really starting to fucking hate italians. upstairs around sunrise the music got better and made up for it (when did pete tong become good? he's always sucked when ive heard him before). what was really horrible is 2 friends could not get in, they've never been to space and have been looking forward to it for years. they had pre purchased afterhours tickets in hand, and the staff wanted $120 ontop of the tickets.

stop lying. this was your best wmc.

Posted by Slylee on Apr-03-2008 16:10:

Actually, I really shouldnt talk because for the last few years, Ive just sort of graced south beach with my presence, not really going to any parties, but I noticed an influx in guidos and gay parties (see Diddy thread from Cameo), so thats pretty much what Im basing my opinion on.

Best OVERALL Party: AM ONLY
The venue was absolutely amazing, so huge too so it was nice that the music from different rooms didn't bleed into eachother. The music was unreal. every dj i heard played an amazing set. everything that nite was carried out perfectly. it was truly the best wmc party ever. lines for bathrooms were quick, they served food the entire night if you needed it. there were even some places (although few) to sit down and rest if you weren't VIP. seeing atb finally was sick and fedde le grande kicked ass

Best crowd/ most fun: Sasha and Digweed boat
The atmosphere couldn't be beat. The music was absolutely perfect for the setting, warm sun, tropical drinks, nice people, other party boats drifting side-by-side with us. "You can't always get what you want" was the perfect end to a perfect evening At one point during the trip my friend turned to me and said.. "life doesn't get much better than this" I had to agree.

Most insane party: Scion at the Raleigh pool on thursday
Ok so at first I was UBER PISSED because it wasn't open bar like last year and it also wasn't in the penthouse. but after some scmoozing with people we met last year and a couple of 20s to one of the staff we got into a cabana had every drink hand carried to us (even the vips had to wait in line for open bar haha) and partied with some crazy ass mofos. I even got a massage from our waiter .. now that i think of it i got some tongue too.. ick.. that wasn't as nice you wouldn't beleive the things that went on in that cabana

Best DJ set: Tiesto @ Mansion
yes beleive it or not the $80 ticket was worth every penny. this was by far not the party i was most looking forward to but tiesto managed to make me remember why i still like trance. He only played 2 of his own songs i think. i was so close to catching his headphones at the end of the night. if tiesto was as enthusiastic as he is when he is in holland, the crown wasn't so pretentious, and it was at KARU and Y instead of Mansion it would have been the best party

Posted by ArminD1981 on Apr-03-2008 17:10:

Hear, hear on Drumcode! Best party for me.

1) Howells @ Set
2) Miami's Most Wanted @ the Beach Plaza Hotel - the ambiance of the roof of this place was so awesome for chilling and dancing/ listening to music.
3) Am Only.. - I spent a significant amount of time in each room and enjoyed every minute of every dj I heard all night/morning.
4) Hope Recordings - I really enjoyed Jody Wisternoff and Dave Seaman's sets
