Review: Groove Armada @ The Social April 2, 2008

Well I will start thread by first of stating that I have now gone 36 hours with no sleep. So if this sounds a little off you know why. lol.

So I was about to not go in all honesty. I was going to a club I had never been to before and as far as I knew there were no TAs that were 100 percent going. That coupled with the fact that I knew I had to work at this morning I was starting to seriously think twice about going. But then my boy Jer-Ol said he wanted to try and buy from a scalper since it was sold out. It worked but he paid a hefty price.

So what can I say. Groove fucking Armada. Definatly dropped some serious tunes last night and the place was packed! Not the same kind of crowd that I'm used to thats for sure. More drinkers and drunk idiots than I'm used to but none the less the crowd seemed a bit older. They certainly got moving once GA was on the decks.

As for the club itself, kinda rundown from what I'm used to (TiL and Guv), but very intimate setting. Couldn't have been more than 350-400 people tops. Kinda like Dragonfly but a bit more unkept. The bathrooms might I add were simply disgusting.

As for Groove Armada themselves.........WOW!!!! They dropped some of their own tunes classic and new along with some modern club tunes. Superstylin was played twice but they were the original and mashup remix. They also played Adam K twilight and Deadmau5. They were on for about 3.25 hours midnight to 3:15ish. And the crowd interaction was great! Shaking hands and going for drinks with the crowd after they were done. I think the only time they seemed a little upset was when this dumbass girl who was smashed out of her tree was dancing right beside them as they were spinning and trying to kiss them and hug them.....no secuirty to be found lol. Anyways eventually the owner came and booted her off the stage, she left about 20 minutes later. Anyways that is my lengthy review.

I WISH YOU GUYS CAME!!!!!

To be honest about a dozen times last night I thinking how badly I with my TA crew and all TA's for that matter were there.

Pics and videos to follow.......I'm fucking tired. I've worked for 17 hours, driven back and forth from toronto and Mississauga 6 times, and partied hard without any sleep. Needless to say I looked like shit today.

I wanted to go, but was hoping to get at the door, but read they were sold out.

I was entertaining the new guy I hired from Buenos Aires here and this was the best bet for a Wed night. He wanted to go to eat at Hooters, and then off to introduce him to LIGHTSHOW at his fine gentleman's establishment...ahem...

There were a couple of TAs who I know were there too and we'll see if they review too.

superstylin @ the social

I was there and I had a great time.

The music was definately not next level or super underground or anything like that. It was even kind of cheesey at times but hey sometimes you need that! Pretty much from the moment they took to the decks until the night was over they had the entire club dancing hard and grinning from ear to ear. Playing tracks from producers like Pryda to Oliver Huntemann to Shlomi Aber and of course quite a few of their own productions. Their set went across alot of styles but the one thing that remained constant was the uplifting musical vibes throughout their set.

There was a really fun and up for it crowd in there last night as well. The place was rammed but there was always room to move about and it never got too pushy / hectic. To add to that it seemed like everyone that was there was there to party and have a good time. I also noticed how it was an older crowd then you'd find at some other clubs in the city (which agreed with me).

Anyways Embrace have been putting on some great shows lately and last night was no different. Cant wait to peep the Dirtybird / Get Physical parties which will be more up my ally (musically)!

OH MAH GAH!!

I was patiently waiting for this night the minute I found out they were playing here. I, too, have never been to social before and didn't know what to expect, but to be honest I couldn't have cared less. For being a DJ set it was redonkulas. Hearing superstylin' totally made my night. I was really happy to have heard most of my favorite tunes and some production from others. The only downer was the very drunkin' idiot who , where ever I moved to, always was around spilling drinks on me. I can't remember which song was coming on but this one girl beside me and I both look at each other at the same time-looked up at the dj both - looked back to each other and said " OH MY GOD, YESSS" and went nuts, was cool lol. As mentioned, the bathrooms were nasty. I held it in with all my might, so the dancing got bit harder towards the end lol. Definitely impressed with the performance and reaaaaaly hope they don't wait 5 year to come back. Woot.

G.A. turned the Social into a 'Lovebox' last night....The performance definitely lived up to my expectations and I love how the crowd had their hands in the air the whole time....it was really the perfect way to celebrate my last exam. The only thing that would've made my night even more satisfying would've been to hear Easy, but I guess you can't have it all.....

What. The Hell.
She was pretty annoying to me, and I wasn't anywhere near the dj booth....so I can't even imagine how those guys felt.....at one point they were trying to interact with the crowd in front of them and had to turn to shush this clingy chick....not cool....although the whole situation was kinda fun to laugh at.

groove armada = legend

did they play lovebox and easy?

Epic.

All the elements fell into place last night for what turned out to be a solid event, no complaints here.

Got inside before 11 to a few people boppin' along to the sounds of Nav, and he was playin' a good mix of fidget house, electro and some solid Bmore tracks to get the dancefloor warmed up (sha sha shake it to the ground).

The GA boys stepped up close to midnight and proceeded to drop one of the funnest sets I've heard, a blend of old and new. From New Order to Deadmau5, Ce Ce Peniston to M.A.N.D.Y. The variety of music they dropped was perfect and nothing seemed out of place, looked like they were havin' a great time on the decks.

Never felt too packed in there, and for the almost 3 hours they played the entire place was just shakin' it, smilin' faces all around and a good vibe in the air.

Dance Music should always been that fun!
