Good Intro Tracks

You know, it's almost impossible to tell which tracks are good to use for an intro just by listening to online samples. I for one hate starting my mixes by dropping in a kick. So, here are some intro tunes that I have found recently and hope you guys will share some gems you've come across as well - any sub-genre will do.

  1. 4Mal - Twilight (Intro Mix) [Trancey]
  2. Marco Petralia - Come Back feat. Jimmie Wilson (Erick Decks & Marco Petralia Vocal Edit) [Deep-ish House]
  3. Blake Jarrell - Animal (Original Mix) [Progressive House]
  4. Paolo Mojo - Paris (Renaissance Intro Mix) [Progressive House]

Almost every psytrance track can be used as an intro.

Some are definitely better than others.

I used to try and find a popular rock-ish song, and just mess around before hand and try to see if I could mix out of it. Added a nice touch to the intro.

I think before (when I used to mix trance/house/whatever) I used White Stripes - Seven Nation Army. It just adds a bit of surprise to the intro, especially if you keep it off the tracklist.

Nowadays I spin mostly mashups/top 40/hip-hop, so I start with whatever would be "out of the ordinary" and sounds good. I find the intro doesn't really need to go with the rest of the set. Like a paper for high school, you need to use an attention getter, that would be the way I would phrase what I try and do.

Sometimes it sounds AWFUL, other times it really makes the set, thats why you need to experiment.

A lot of the time, I find that "Intro Mixes" often lack oomph, so I use a lot of these often:
Slam! (Feat. Tyrone Visionary Palmer): Lifetimes
Massiver Lust: Never (Original Mix)
Nathan Fake: The Sky Was Pink (Holden Mix)
Nathan Fake: Outhouse
Lindstrom: I Feel Space (love love LOVE this track as an opener)
Fred Falke & Alan Braxe: Intro (Deep house)
Indianna: Do You Hear Me? (Dino Lenny Remix)

Impact: Inspiration
Tangled Universe: Message From The Universe
Grace: Not Over Yet '99 (Breeder's It Is Now Remix)
Markus Schulz: Without You Near (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
Transa: Prophase (X-Cabs Mix 1) (this may not suit all purposes, but is great for goa type sets)

More recently:
John Dahlback: Song For Djingis
Michael Cassette: Shadows Movement
The Chemical Brothers: Do It Again (Huntemann Remix)
Glenn Morrison: Contact (Edited to that first keyboard bit)
Roland Klinkenberg & DJ Remy: Mexico Can Wait
Viframa: Cristalle (Katana Intro Mix) (DJ SteelWolf Re-Edit) (special edit i did some time ago, removes the opening beats to that 3 minute long synth bit)

theres loads more thats juts some I like using

Audion - Noiser, pretty much tells where this will end up

Some may scoff at using a track by a from a source like this, but one of the bedroom bedlam winner's, allexinno's Sunrise 5AM can really set the crowd alight, especially from the second half. It has a really bouncy, nice strings hook plus some acoustic guitar. Check it at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cf...endID=136536645

beatless dj tools/edits = great opening stuff imo.

LOL I totally stole the idea from ISOS 6, but it is a GREAT opener. You may want to add an ambient track at the beginning so the keyboard isn't so hard coming in.

Haha yeah I know it's a rip off but whatever it works.

That ambient track pre-intro intro sounds good. I'm gonna look for one.
