Review: Axwell @ Circa
Unfortunate start to the night was $25 parking, since it was $10 when we were there for roger sanchez. And we missed guestlist, so the night came out more expensive than anticipated. The one brightside about entry is circa keeps the lineup moving fast. no dumb holding shit like most clubs.
On to the good: Doman & Pettigrew are really good, i missed having a place to listen to mainstream house music that wasn't too cheesy. Sets a good vibe and fun to dance too. Will have to check out a residents night in the future.
The carnival theme was interesting. Do they change the concept every week, or is that actually staying there awhile? i must say, getting drunk people to play carnival games is an effective way to make money lol.
When axwell came on he announced him sell during the song 'dirty south - let it go (axwell remix) so automatically set an awesome vibe...i love when headliners are announced, opposed to just speratically mixing themselves in to the last djs track. I loved axwell's set, he has some awesome talent on those decks, it seemed as if he was doing a lot of mashups. It was cool hears tons of familiar acapella's but in different remix's then what i've heard. The list of great songs is far to long to list, only one i'm disappointed not to hear was hi new remix 'hard fi - i shall overcome (axwell remix)' but other than that, he played everything i could have hoped for...even busting out feel the vibe. Axwell even has a trancy side to him, playing a remix of greece 2000 which was cool, and the new remix of toca's miracle.
The crowd who was there for the music was great, with good hands in the air moments, however over, i found it to be one of the pushiest crowds i've encountered, and maybe its just me getting older, but very immature like.
the coat check line at the end was the most rediculous lack of organization i've ever encountered, and everyone in line was a fuckin animal trying to get to the front, it was rediculous. The topper too was once actually getting out coat, the staff was strolling along taking their sweet time doing nothing to improve conditions.
overall a good night though.

Pissed I never made it, still recovering from being sick. Grrrr.
Glad to hear it was good setwise, I'm probably going to catch him at Guv on Sat.

its a goddamned shame that such a brilliant musical night had to be ruined by the disgraceful..."death-trap"....coatcheck at the end. In five and half years of partying it up at wide array of clubs and afterhours, this was truly the first time that I was actually uncomfortable in such a mass of people.
Its a damned shame that:
a.) General human behaviour in times of stress seems to be to panic and / or get highly emotionally charged up to the point where you are actually endangering others around you. For the most part the crowd of people that were waiting for their coats were well behaved. All it takes however is the three or four drunk and ignorant pricks to attempt to push their way through an impossible throng of people to the point of resorting to violence. i stood in that inhumane mess for nearly an hour and i was truly sickened.
b.) It took the security staff far too long to respond to what was obviously a dangerous situation involving alot of people. Before they got involved in a productive manner (if you want to call it that) they were actually a hinderance. Ok so the unruly crowd opened up a door that was slightly ajar because of the number of people crowded into that space. As soon as this door opened a whole bunch of people obviously moved into this new found free space. I understand if the area was restricted but any person with half an inkling of common sense can tell that by forcing these doors closed again, you were creating a possible crisis.
Axwell was excellent...terrific mixing with some stellar mashups. the crowd was meh but the music made up for it. Its unfortunate that the incident at the end was so horrendous that i will not venture into that club again anytime in the near future.
Sorry for the rant guys but I'm a very patient person and this just plain disturbed the living shit out of me.

OK, finally, I made to write a review. Overall, the night was amazing and Axwell didn't dissapoint! I was looking forward to meeting him, since I made his myspace fan page a few years back, and it got pretty famous, so I handed it over and his booking agent now runs it.
We managed to chill near the booth and actually watch him in action. I haven't really seen DJ work so hard for quite a while because the whole time he was spinning he didn't look back or talk to a single person. He was so into it, it was amazing!
I was trying to meet him at the end, but only had a chance to introduce myself and talk for a few brief seconds, because he was literally getting hounded by all these girls, it was redicilous! Still pissed didn't get to take pic with him, but oh well.
Overall, I had tons of fun, he played some of his classics, loved "Tell me why!"...argh....Looking forward to next week at the Guv with Angello and Ingrosso ;-)
Oh, and, I had a panic attack while waiting for the coat check, so I literally had to run out and stay at the entrance..It was awaful
Also, Circa has the worst organization when it comes to guestlists...It took multiple gl girls 10 mins to figure out and find our names..and not even mentioning that Kristina put her other friends through the website, but their names were not even there...;(

thank god for summer coming and no coat check will be required soon. they have to do something about it.
i have been trying to figure out what they can do, but can't come up with anything.
at guetta we didn't even get to check out coats because it was full at 11:30. we shoved them behind a speaker eventually.

I found myself almost in a fist fight with some spoilt drunken little bitch during the "coat check crush" stopped only by my husband who stepped in... before regretting it as he also wanted to kill her. She was pretending she needed THAT bathroom to get to the front. I had to climb over into the coat check room to retrieve my own coat. I don't care if Jesus plays at Circa. I'll never go again. (Until the crowd matures a little anyway) Drunken shoving and screaming is not acceptable. What I heard of Axwell's set was really good. I only got to enjoy about 40 min of it though before deciding to leave. |
the coat check is horrible, but there is a trick..
u can either sneak through the one girls bathroom,,,
or just stick to the left side of the wall because thats usually where the let the people
through. last time i went alot of people were just butting and trying to get to the front of the
pack, even tho the bouncers only let people in that are against the left wall..
and yes the crowd is very pushy, i think its because alot of them are not there for the music,
they just do random zig zag walking patterns in the main floor to piss everyone off, maybe
its some sort of Guido mating ritual???
