Girls (and Chris?), I've got a question about flowers

My girlfriend is coming back from Japan and I want to make her a surprise: I want to put a buquet of roses in her living room. The problem is that I have to do that 8 hours before her arrival (10 PM), as I can't buy flowers after 2 PM.

Thoughts?

Just put them there 8 hours before she gets there?

if you keep the flowers cold, it should do the trick

^^^^

Would a fan destroy them even if the wind isn't so strong?

I'm worried about water/wind/light/etc.

Being a bloke, I know next to nothing about flowers

don't use a fan. ice water, or in a fridge

In a fridge?

For how long can I leave the flowers in there?

(Braslia is too warm, the ice water would quickly thaw)

Why wouldn't I do both?

Flowers are too expected and not sentimental.

Believe me, there's a good reason why I'm doing that

Besides, we're both students/teachers, so we just give chocolate to one another most of the time... it's cheaper

What girl doesnt like flowers?
That wasn't our point.

A mix of roses and carnations with babies breathe is nice.

8 hours?
bit of water at the stems should keep them doing ok for that period of time, cut the stems diagonally if you're cutting them yourself. i mean i suppose it depends, are you leaving a bouquet on a table, or going to leave them in a vase?

In a vase. Unless I put them in the fridge, naturally... It would be lulzy if she opened her fridge and saw a buquet of roses in there

do it!
and have a little card attached that just says 'surprise!'
holy hell that'd be kinda awesome

but a vase should keep them fine for 8 hours i'd say

fake edit: after re-reading the OP they'll definitely be fresh if you cut them halfway between when you buy them and when you she gets home, cut a bit off, and make sure to cut diagonally. lots of bacteria gets in the bottom of the stem where the flower draws its water and blocking that works just like a straw, it cuts off its nutrition. easy to find stuff on how to cut/prepare flowers on google too
should be a big deal

Wouldn't it? I'm probably going to do that!
