Summer Office Work?

Here's my situation:

In early May my second semester at school comes to an end but my M.A. degree is not finished until approx. Labour Day. Over the summer I will be working on a major research paper (collecting my own data in May/June and then analyzing the data and writing the paper over the following months). Thus, I will not have the time to work full-time hours. In addition, the scholarship with which the government provided me prevents me from working anymore than 400 hours total in one year (i.e., from Sept 2007 to Sept 2008). I am, however, interested in working weekends. At the moment I am scheduled to begin working weekends (2 12 hour shifts per weekend) at the Molson Coors Light beer brewery on (approx.) May 9th or 10th (weekend work at the brewery is either two night shifts (Fri and Sat night) or two day shifts (Sat and Sun morning)). However, if it's possible I'd prefer to not work there this summer and instead get some type of office job. The work at the brewery is all physical/manual labour: over the last few years I haven't had an issue with doing the work (although it certainly does suck ass) but now that I've just gone through a second major surgery on my lung I do not like the idea of doing heavy lifting throughout the summer (no, I have never experienced any lung-related problems from doing heavy lifting but collapsed lungs can definitely be caused by physical exertion/strenuous work and, at any rate, I'd like to not have to take the chance and risk another pneumothorax!). I may try speaking with one of the higher-ups at Molson to see if he'd agree to keep me on a fork truck all summer but I doubt he'll appreciate such a request.

So, (I realize this is a broad question but nevertheless), does anybody have any recommendations as to any kind of office work that would be available on the weekends throughout the summer? I get the impression that a good number of you work in offices and, so, I thought maybe a few people would have some ideas for me (maybe even deriving from your own places of employment). Does the location at which you work offer summer positions for weekend work? I'm available to start working either Sat May 3rd or Sat May 10th.

Maybe I should mention that I've never worked in an office (although I have sat at one desk or another for the last 5 years on account of being in school) and I have no experience with or knowledge about economics (not sure why I mention this). And yes, I can (obviously) use a computer.

BTW, I am not absolutely committed to working in an office: I simply suspect that such a job would be the most readily available opportunity. Furthermore, office work seems the farthest removed from physical labour (which I've done each summer since 2005).

Thank you kindly in advance for any suggestions; your help is appreciated

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll probably make a post on Craigslist for wanting summer work.

You can post too but its better to look for it. You have a much higher chance getting a job if you look for it on craigslist rather than just post...

I got my job on craigslist, I was suprised. A lot of very big and great private companies post on craigslist.

Jayforce posted on Facebook that he's looking for attractive female bartenders for May 31st (Saturday) at $25 an hour for 6 hours..

if you want me to send you the info, message me.

Most office jobs are Mon - Fri, unless you get some sort of shift call centre work? just an idea...

Good luck out there. BTW - contact English Rachel - we both work in recruitment and she works at my old company and they do office support type stuff there too!

I'd help but I only do IT and Finance.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice! The bartending opportunity won't work for me, however, because I'm a male (at least that's what this thing between my legs signifies)
