cool statue of Osiris, but i think Anubis or Horus would've been cooler.

Cool idea....don't even know where that station is though

Posted by smuncky on Apr-09-2008 00:46:

too bad they totally fucked up the cieling. if it came closer to what the rendering was i would be more supportive but as it stands right now, the old design was better.

I wonder how much this cost...

(and how much money could have gone into improving the service)

Posted by mnemonic. on Apr-09-2008 00:50:

oh i also like the recessed hieroglyphics in the word museum on the wall

could've done it much cheaper if they just gave the stations a nice scrub once in awhile. probably could've cleaned up all the stations with that $5 mil.

Posted by AustralianGQ on Apr-09-2008 01:06:

and later hours for the ttc is brilliant.. so stfu idiot
you don't care that the city pays for decorative pillars.. but you care about a public service? blah.

I agree.

I think it looks GREAT!

BUT, considering all the complaining the city and TTC have been doing about not having enough money... was it REALLY necessary to spend $5,000,000.00 on sprusing up one of the less busy stations in the city?

Posted by smuncky on Apr-09-2008 02:02:

btw, the ttc only spent $1mil. the other amount was from private donaters and the province.

it's gonne be fun reading these posts after a couple of years when ppl will be saying that the station is old, tacky, boring, etc and it needs a new look.

wow! 5 million for some ornamental pillar covers. You could build a community center with that money... well not quite but close.

I passed by the station the other day and only saw the sign "museum".. thought it was a nice detail. The pillars do look out of place with the half-ass ceiling job.

Posted by Dj Gracjan on Apr-09-2008 02:24:

that looks pretty neat i like

Posted by dEsidEL on Apr-09-2008 02:36:

the totem poles and egyptian designs look kinda tacky.. but i like the ionic columns, perhaps that same design woulda looked better on all the columns..

anyways, apparently more than 50% of the cost was privately funded through grants and donations, and the TTC/city picked up the tab on the rest..

quote:

"The concept is to connect the cultural reality above ground with the station below ground," says Rahul Bhardwaj, president and CEO of the Toronto Community Foundation, which contributed $2 million to the Museum station redesign. (The province put in $2 million and the Toronto Transit Commission, the final million.)

i agree that the money could've been better spent on improving service, which at this point is far more critical than the aesthetics of a single station.. tho in all fairness, the private money received went specifically to this project, not sure that the same sponsors would have fronted the money for just service improvements..

anyways, there's a good article in the Star about it here:
