They aren't that much tribal. Headed from Toronto for this!

Posted by fullhouse on Apr-14-2008 05:09:

Not really tribal anymore... they literally changed the name to their Stereo residency party... so for all you attendees of those Tribalicious nights... that was history in the making baby!!!!!

I remember having a few conversations with Pablo Ceballos in the past year, he was telling me how he was dying to play more tech and minimal, that he was playing Tribal to keep his fans happy but that we could expect a transition in his sound, a very smooth one. I think their intentions are pretty clear now with Calderone leading the way!

lol that's pretty bad of him to say that, wow

keeping fans happy is one thing

following your musical intuition is another

artist or entertainer? i dunno anymore...

both. i believe thats what makes a good dj

i thought 1) track selection and 2) mixing capability made a good DJ

did C&C blow kisses to you from the booth? was that entertainment enough? lol just kidding

Posted by fullhouse on Apr-14-2008 15:22:

music is entertainment
music vehicles entertainment
a dj makes music
a dj entertains
a dj vehicles entertainment

you don't have to be Russell Peters to entertain. there is a 2nd dimension to things you know

Erika I think he meant that in the past year C&C was booked at 100% Tribal partys (ex: Tribalicious) and was expected to play Tribal.

if C&C want to move on to more minimal-tech stuff, why is it that both C&C as well as their booking agent are still accepting bookings where they are expected to play 100% tribal?

example: you don't see dubfire/dubfire's agent accepting bookings to play like he did back in the day. and dubfire's communicating his "new" sound with his productions; not only his DJ sets (which are usually filled with his productions anyway).

i personally think that if a DJ wants to re-vamp their sound/image, doing it through their productions is a smart way to do so...smarter than through DJ sets/being booked at so-called 'appropriate' parties.

C&C has been playing minimal/tech and commercial house for a while now especially Chus...all the so called tribal dj's are going that route...Calderone, D-formation, Vibe somewhat..

Posted by RayRayy on Apr-14-2008 16:38:

It really depends where they are playing. My friends in NYC sez Calderone and Ceballos still playing tribal type sets there.

Posted by ~*Stereohead*~ on Apr-14-2008 17:08:

friggin trends lol

tribal DJs playing minimal tech

it's hard to keep up with all of em!

thanks for the info tho, and i do agree that venue has a lot to do with it.

By the way we highly encourage everyone to wear Kolor Shades as this will be the theme of the night.

What? You didn't go to WMC so you never felt the need to buy a pair?

No problem. Believe it or not, Kolor Shades will be sold at the party!! lol

I don't think you guys have any idea what your talking about.

Posted by BlendedProd. on Apr-15-2008 01:47:

If you want to know whatsup with them this is what i suggest:

Blended Sound:002 is the second in a series of CD compilations from Mile End Records. Blended Sound:002 is mixed by famed Spanish duo of Chus and Ceballos and Montreal's Joubin. The double disc is the follow up to the hugely successful Stereo Sound: 001 mixed by Portugal's DJ Vibe & Montreal's Stephan Grondin .
The double disc compilation brings together the very best international talent with Montreal's renowned House music DJs. Blended Sound is born out of Montreal's legendary nightlife scene that has attracted people to its core from around the world. Chus & Ceballos and Joubin are currently both residents at Montreal's famed Stereo Nightclub and their nights together are a highlight on the club's star studded line-up.
Chus & Ceballos have consistently been on every DJ List top 100, are some of the most sought after producers in electronic music and their Spanish label Stereo Productions constantly puts out some of the hottest dance floor tracks. Joubin is one of Canada's hottest house music producers and Djs, who with producing partner Nicola Torriero have created a signature sound that can be heard on releases from their own label I/O Recordings

Aren't you a fan of Steve Lawler? A Lawlerhead as they say? He made the leap from tribal to his current style, so what's wrong if these boys want to do the same thing?

The irony in that sentence is overwhelming.

<-------- Self proclaimed Lawlerhead, definitely

He made that leap over a lot of time...years!!! And he was one of the first to do so (about 3 years ago, I'd say he really moved away from straight up tribal). And he did it quite properly, imo...His sound is becoming increasingly experimental (glitchy, minimalesque aspects) but he still maintains that 'filth' factor in most of what he produces. His more experimental side shows more in the tracks he chooses to play, imo. He's continuously evolving, and that's one of the main reasons I still name him my #1 today...

Now, like 3 years later, every DJ is going for the whole minimal techno thing. Nothing wrong with C&C doing it, I just hope they do it well, and don't make that transition from one month to the next. I dunno, it's just my thoughts Going too quick seems like they just wanna jump on the minimal techno wagon, and follow the current trend.

No more hijacking, I apologize...

This party will be rocking for sure either way; C&C do know how to throw down beats for straight up partying, I'll give them that for sure
