Sushi Spots
Just trying to some good Sushi Spots that are not in the NOBU Price range. Mid to downtown areas,etc...Usually my meal of choice before I go out, just want to find some good quality stuff.
shit, I can't for the life of me remember the name, but there is a great little Sushi Spot on West 4th Street right by Love.
Sushi Park by St. Marks Place isnt bad...50% off sushi after 7pm i believe
There's this other place up around the East 80's, that had a really good all-you-can-eat place, think the name is Yuka or something.
EAST - a chain throughout the city, but the quality isnt bad either..and actually the one on E44st near Grand Central has some kickass Yakitori, Tuesdays 50% off
I've heard these places r great too - Haru, Matsuri, tomoe sushi, blue ribbon (I *think* that costs a bit less than Nobu)

There is a great spot next to Katz's Deli Downtown, I forget the name though.
Momoya - 7th and 21st. Great stuff there...and the quality is excellent.
sakae sushi - east 43rd between lex and 3rd. don't be confused by the conveyor belt, the sushi is very fresh if ordered a la carte.
yama - east 49th between 1st and 2nd, or houston, west of broadway. another one on carmine place. hugh jass pieces for the price you pay.
asiakan on W 94th. I know its not downtown, but they have the FRESHEST sushi I have ever had, and the food and cocktails are AMAZING. The vibe is awesome.....think andy warhol (sp?) buddha style. Very mad, and they have a mod lounge with fancy cocktails and couches and chilllll house music playing.
LOVE it.
Tomoe - it's on Thompson and the corner of Houston. Best sushi I've eaten, they don't take reservations so you might have to wait a bit. But it's worth it.
Blue Ribbon Sushi - 119 Sullivan St. btwn Prince and Spring streets
Probably the best tasting sushi I've had around the city, and really fresh. Prices are average to maybe a bit above average for a sushi restaurant, but definitely not Nobu prices. There's one in SoHo and in Park Slope.

| Originally posted by ReenTeenTeen I have been going to Tomoe for about a decade now. Its one amazing joint in my opinion. It looks like a hall in a wall but if you come in a party of four after 5-6pm, you are waiting at least half hour outside. Its mostly same story if its two of you but ITS SO WORTH THE WAIT!!! |

I've eaten at most of the "high end" sushi places, with the exception of blue ribbon and I think Tomoe's fish is as good, if not better, than any of those other places. If you're just into sushi and sashimi, than Tomoe is definitely the place. But if you like fancy rolls and dishes, then I'd probably skip it. |
Haru, downtown on beaver st. is terrible avoid it at all costs.
