Best MP3 Players?

Yesterday my beloved Phillips MP3 died after I accidentally dropped my back pack. Had just returned home from work, and it just so happens I had a beer in the same compartment. So the wasted beer got all over my player and now it won't turn on or even re-charge. I'm in need of a new one now. Just wondering what are the better brands and which one's should I be looking at? I'm not interested in video's or pictures on it, just music.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

Cowon makes some awesome players, with loads of features you cannot find on other players. Take a look:

I was always thinking about getting the cowon A2/20gb but would it play all my different .avi(divx) with numerous codecs?? Main reason I would get it is for those long trips for the movies!!

I have a Sandisk Sansa Connect and I can honestly say that it is awesome. Other than the fact that it won't connect to my Laptop which is running Ubuntu Linux, it is flawless. It has WiFi, the ability to expand memory through micro SD, and an easy to navigate UI. Since you can just transfer MP3's to the micro SD and have it recognize them, Ubuntu works with that, and the flash memory over the mini-HD is far more stable.

If you are looking for an alternative to an iPod, I would go with one of the Sandisk Sansa series MP3 players. They seem to have only gotten better since the Connect which was clearance when I got it.

I would check out the meizu m6. You get good value for the price.

Its not an mp3 player per se, but I love my Nokia N800 + 16gb sd card.

It has 2 SD slots, so I could add another 16g, totalling 32Gb.

wifi, bluetooth, firefox, divx, streaming radio, fm, 800px*480px, etc

It has internet so you can pretty much listen to any radio station you want since they all pretty much broadcast online.

But you ave to be in range of a free wifi access point and those arent exactly all over te place.

If you need it to also receive radio ten obviously ipods are no good, but whenever i would listen to radio on an mp3 player te batter life would be halved so i mostly listened to mp3s. And in tat area an ipod is ard to beat. Since you don't need pics or video support one of these babies would be perfect.

... and what about the Zune?

Sandisk sansa e200 series

Dropped it, smashed it, sat on it, took it out in the rain and recently put it through the laundry machine and even after over an hour in soapy corrosive water, it still works. That thing is invincible. It cannot be vinced.

when I meant radio's, I did not mean the ipod sucks and thats the end. I used to drvie to work and have my radio. Now cause I commute I wanted the same experience so thats why I got an mp3/fm-am radio. Mainly for the morning shows but..... you could always save the pod cast(MP# form)if their availble to hear that morning show you missed on that day.

PS. IPOD SUCKS. Don't refer to above what I said at the beginning

Ive used Sony, Ipod, Sandisk and Iriver mp3 players. Over all I choose Iriver and Sandisk over Ipod or Sony. The convenience I find with Iriver and Sandisk is that you dont need to install any kind of software to up music to them. When you connect the mp3 player to your computer it shows up as another drive and its as easy as drag and drop. Fuck that sync waiting bullshit.

I currently have a sandisk sansa 512mb and a Iriver 20gb H10. I use to have an Iriver clix 1gb. It was the best damn fucking mp3 player I ever owned I SHIT YOU NOT, but it got stolen by a mexican or a black person.

Ended up buying just a simple Sport Insignia mp3 player. Has worked great for the past few months now and its great with my insanely awesome Phillips head phones.

Thanks for all the advice.

Every mp3 player offers different features, so there is no best mp3 player. Companies that make good mp3 players are iriver, apple, cowon and creative. Samsung and Sony also have some good players which stand out from the rest but I would normally stay away from them. I never had a Zune to test drive so no comment on zune which I think is manufactured by Toshiba. My all time favorite player is iriver Clix 1st gen and Clix II, amazing player which beats every other flash based player in almost every aspect.
