Californians I need your help!
Hey im living in Oregon and Graduating HS here in a few months. Im looking into moving to California and going to a community college for 2 years or so. I have done some research but wanna hear from someone who has some experience in California or knows the area etc.

live in San Diego, and I don't know much about the abundance of community college in other cities, but we have 4 major community colleges with quick transfer programs to UCSD/SDSU. And then there about 20 "other" small colleges for jews and christians or black guys, etc if that's your thing.
that's san diego
sacramento has a nice community college system with fast-track transferring into berkeley or davis is thats your thing. lots of nice EDM events in nearby san francisco

The Central Valley has arguably the best year-round weather in the country, but that's counting in variety for those who like a bit of change. Take out variety and you get San Diego. (santa barbara too?)
Go hang out with the losers at Delta College in Stockton...
I effing DARE you!
look at prices. You are going to be considered a out-of-state resident.
OCC and Goldenwest Community College in Orange County have pretty high acceptance rates to UCLA, UCI, CSULB, and some other Cal State schools.
OCC is supposed to pretty good, I have a bunch of friends that went there.
The Chabot/Las Positas CC District has two excellent schools, and they're both being expanded dramatically. I'm a bit partial to las positas, because they have extremely excellent professors there (I've only had one that wasn't so good), and it's in a nicer location than Chabot. Granted the Tri-Valley isn't the most "fun" place to be, as it's out in the suburbs, but there's BART/caltrain/ace train to take you basically anywhere in the bay area that you'd want to go to.
Oh, and virtually all of the CCs in california have transfer agreements w/ the UC and CSU systems here, so transferring isn't too difficult, as long as you get good grades.
One more thought: if you're into the beach thing, Cabrillo college in Aptos (literally right next to Santa Cruz) is also a good school, but they're more impacted than Chabot/Las Positas. (And you're right next to UC Santa Cruz)

| Originally posted by gehzumteufel lol no. sacramento (and the whole central valley basically) has some of the worst. its either 45f in the winter or 105f during the summer. no in between really at all. i grew up in sacramento/greater sacramento area. there is no appeal to live there. it has nothing for young people to do, and no edm. steer clear of sac. |

Spring and fall are pretty great. I also said 'arguably'. Hell, I've heard crazy people up here (Seattle) say the weather is perfect because they love it when it constantly rains... other people kill themselves because of it. But holy crap you're not kidding, there's jackshit to do around there. I wasn't seriously recommending Stockton at all, unless a high crime rate per-capita is your shtick. A couple hour drive either way and you can have snow or beach... which is nice, but I'd rather pick one and stick with it. |

Im trying to steer clear from bad weather lol. I am deff a big city person and looking mainly around any major cities. I love SD and LA. Which do you think would be a more expensive place to live? Im looking for an apartment around $1800 for a two room. Oh and which would have the best EDM scene. Im guessing LA.
SF also has a good EDM scene.

You could smell 'em cooking it up at 3am after the undercovers would leave. My mom called up the detective, who let us know what was up. "Do you leave just before 3?" "Err.. yeah. Why?" "Because that's when they start cookin' it." "Shit". We weren't in a bad neighborhood, it was quite good actually, but it was quiet and spread out. *sigh, I miss that place. |
