Jester I want to be a baller when i grow up!

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A couple fighting about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father's arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday.

On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into the Hollywood Video store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.

After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.

His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.

"They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would 'claim,'" Sandoval said.

Manzanares was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and domestic violence. He was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a year of probation. The misdemeanor harassment charge was dropped.

The important question is why was a member of the Westside Ballers with a member of the Crips?

Fucking poor people.

I personally think they should make the kid join the crips .....Why because we have them here in Toronto as well.......Seems like a big gang and has more crime opportunity....whereas the Westside Ballers havent heard of them seems like a group of new wanabees who arent that famous yet.

The man's got a point.

I was thinking...maybe they could have some type of "joint custody" type thing. You know Westside Baller on the Weekends and Crips during the week, except for the summer months. For June and July he can claim to be a Baller.

i just saw a thing on tv a few days ago about some atlanta neighborhood that a local developer, who also had a hand in some major buildings in ny, turned a very crime ridden area into a golf course. took the employment rate from 14% to 85% and crime rate went down 95%. also the literacy rate went from 8% to 78% and housing in the area was made to mix the folks on public assistance with people who were not.

that's somewhat of a nice story. it's great when areas are gentrified but the majority of the people who initially populated those areas are displaced. those stats don't really tell the entire story imo...

the point of the whole redevelopment was to put those people back to work and keep them in the community. they were only temporarily displaced. at least thats what they lead me to believe. im not disagreeing that probably some were permanently displaced, but lets say that 25% were permanently displaced, thats 75% of those people in BETTER conditions and financial stability is much more attainable. you cant please or save everyone, but something is better than nothing.

I see where you are coming from but I doubt even 50% of the people remain. my guess is that the jump in literacy and employment rates have more to do with a different group of people moving in. personally i see it around me, i live borderline harlem next to columbia university. there are new doorman apartment buildings going up, a starbucks being built and other improvements. for example my apt was gutted and completely renovated weeks before my roommate and i moved in last year. we probably pay the most in my building and my guess is our landlords are trying to attract other people like us. this doesn't help the people who have been here for years because a time will come when they will no longer be able to afford living here. yeah maybe they could work at the new businesses but that might be it. besides that i just look at the people on the street / train...definitely an interesting mix.

i dont disagree that its probably a little skewed, since they probably dont track the former residents. i just dont see it as bad at the same time. id much rather some of them taking responsibility for their situations than none. you have to pick the better of the two evils.
