[House] Aigis - Machinations (192 kbps / 7:23 / Full)
Hey guys.
It's been a long hiatus but I finally resolved to hunker down and actually finish another track. This is the first one since late 2006!
Aigis - Machinations (Direct link - right-click/save as)
For those of you familiar with my older tracks, you won't find any breakbeats in here, and probably not a lot of trance-like elements either (though it's certainly melodic, as they always are). I wanted to have at least one pure house tune to my name. Still has all the other standard Aigis gimmicks of course.
As always, I appreciate any feedback that you're able and feel like taking the time to give.
Thanks for listening!
Cheers,
Aaron
Pretty cool tune. The main lead sounds kinda psy trancelike. Great use of sound effects. I didn't think that the electric piano thing really fit it seems like it was kinda in there to make it more house sounding, but that is more preference. As far as productino goes everything seems good.
Edit: i listened to a few tunes in your sig and i am enjoying them second order is my favorite.
Thanks for the solitary review.
I discovered a while ago that the e-piano isn't for everyone. I felt that it fit here, particularly with the main harmony, and didn't necessarily make it any more housey, but of course it really is a matter of taste.
Thanks again!
Kind of a mood filler track to lure people into a night. Not too bad mate
I'll give it a go this week early on.

long time no talk
lov'n the bassline groove and the retro synth stabs
Gotta love the Aigis gimmicks
Very good track dude.
hey man like the synth melody. good work on this
Nice stuff Digi, a bit Lounged if u ask me
.
Me likes.
Kopi =o.
Heh, it's fun to read all the different takes on what it's about. That's a good thing, I think!
Thanks again for the kind words guys!
Listening.
Hmm.. nice "rock band" open hat
The melody is kinda fresh, busy with stabs as usual.
Could maybe wish for more percussions stuff, but cool track overall.
The track sounds old, which i think is cool.
Sorry for the bump, just wanted to say thanks again - I guess it is a bit rockish, good to have an occasional change of scenery though right?
I've definitely spoiled people on the percussion front... now I need at least 46 drum samples to keep people interested, haha.
Cheers, I appreciate the feedback!
Aaron
Nice work, its got a groovy retro feel and a nice solid bassline that keeps it moving along nicely. I'm a real sucker for all the 80s sounding stuff too.
Atmospherics are great, and I'm now thouroughly intimidated as far as my own tracks, its just that complex.
Definately send it around, I'd love to hear this on a dance floor.
hey, comments as i listen...
the bass sounds kinda plain, can't hear too much lows there. also too mono for my taste.
the pads are nice and add a cool atmosphere to the track. also nice fxs.
the hats are cool. i'd like a punchier kick.
like the distorted melody that comes in at 2.13
cool melody at 2.40....nice synth sound.
just noticed that the arrangement of the track doesn't include a standard break. not sure if it's good or bad.
overall it's a fine piece of music. what bothers me the most is the sound quality, it sounds "old" also a bit centered. note that it's not muddy and the mixdown sounds ok.
thanks for sharing!
Heh, wasn't expecting a bump after all this time. Thanks again for the comments!
Well, you know good music is timeless

Hey, Aaron, this track is really good! Actually, everything I've listened to that you produced is fantastic. I'm glad I didn't miss this.
Thanks, that's sweet.
Although I've got plenty of garbage tracks and half-tracks kicking around, I just don't pass those ones out!
Hola Digi! Great you posted something finally!
I like this little 80's touch in the intro
hmmmm
sounds lovely so far
nice work on the glitch effects, they are really adding to the track (they are not the kind many people seem to use now, let's add some glitching for the wow effect! yours are better)
I like that distorded guitar like lead ... overall I think sometimes the tracks get a bit too busy, if you get what I mean...for example that video-gameish melody ... I would leave out that background sound for a little while, to get the listener adapted to the new theme...if you get what I mean...
so far 9/10 for the lovely nostalgia of the 80's atmosphere
theres definately a lot going on in this track..
imo the bass needs more low and less high.. takes up too much space the way it is, makes everything a tad chaotic when everything is going on..
other than that its a pretty cool track
@dj_alfi: I'm sorry, but I don't agree...I think it makes it kinda spontaneous sounding...the busy"ness" of the track should be lowered by some other change
at least that's how I see it (y)

it just makes me feel that the author of the track has thought more of the composition than the production...which is what made pre 1999 trance so greatly emotional.
LOL at people arguing over my track.
For the record, I did fuss quite a bit over the bass, even A/B'ed it against a lot of commercial tracks in my library and felt that it was more or less on par. Having said that, I don't have fancy studio monitors or a heavy-duty club system, or even the best ear by any objective standard, so I don't claim to be 100% accurate in that judgment. I did indeed think quite a bit about the mixing, but Booster is probably right in that I tend to be more interested in the composition and arrangement.
Also amused by the comment about the glitches (and thank you). That's just one of the Aigis gimmicks I referred to at the beginning.
I can't make a track without them anymore, else people just tell me something's missing, heh. Those stutter edits can be a bitch to get right so I'm glad a few people appreciate the work that goes into it!
Yeah, it definitely gets a little busy in spots. I think it's actually not over-layering, but just some weak and lazy mixing. I kind of intended to get back to the segment where the electro (sorry, video game
) lead is playing and even it out, but I was sick of it. Sorry.
Thanks again for your comments!
