i dont trust the translation page on Alta Vista .com but i was wondering how you say 'The Speechwriter' in german

You'll more often find the more general "ghostwriter" as germans are not too fond of their own language.

Ghostwriter > Redenschreiber, hence "more general"

it's just that ghostwriters do not only write speeches, they can also write complete books, which makes it not exactly the same.
dict.leo.org says: speechwriter = redenschreiber and i'd agree with that.
ghostwriter = jemand der was schreib aber dessen name dannnicht drunter steht...
oder denkt ihr irgendeiner der politiker schreibt seine reden selbst? (ausser unser guter eddy vielleicht^^)
