Yeah, I heard sound wasn't so hot @ the pool last year; but I'm not sure if I'm wrong on that... opinions?

Sound definitely could have been better. Wasn't very loud and the only real sweet spot was back where the sound tent iirc

Yea, him at the pool last year = not my fav.

However he was amazing at Bal en Blanc.

I did buy a ticket for the thing at Pacha on 5/7. Not sure if I'll go to it or not, but I figured as it gets closer there will be a big demand for tix. And I'm figuring since it's such a small space it will sell out. So I can sell my tix if I decide not to go, for at least face value if not a tidy profit.

theres gonna be lots of angry people in there.

^^ yea there are!!

that's part of the reason why I'm a-skeered to go...

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Apr-14-2008 20:46:

meh. NO THANKS. so much for the anticipation. FAIL.

wait, i cant even go anyway since i may have a wedding to go to that night. oh wells

Posted by emc^2 on Apr-14-2008 20:52:

well, as long as RenJen promisses not to sing again, I might consider going. Venue was pretty cool, lots of room but that back-slap from the brick wall in the back was pretty f*d up.

//waits for riots over Brooklyn Beer being there again... I must have downed 2 bottles of vino just to avoid that unrefined pi$$ they dare to call "beer". ugh. The chiken kebabs + rice was awesome tho! Worth it alone.

I was soooo hoping Armin would be the tobacco warehouse. Oh well. suxorz.

exactly. unless someone else booked TW waaaay in advance where they didnt have time to secure the permits/monies/security persons needed to work the time shift etc. theres quite a bit of paperwork that goes into that. hmm i thought a year would be enough time to figure that out =/

Posted by acetate212 on Apr-14-2008 20:56:

this outdoor armin event is like christmas-it comes but once a year. why couldn't they give us tobacco warehouse?
anticipations dashed to crap, but yeah I'll be going anyway..

last year's first half was bad but the 2nd half was great. i didn't want it to end

Hopefully it goes on a little later than last years.

everything you said.

def not feeling McCarren with its shitty ass system. But he was soooo holyshitomgwhoa in Montreal. decisions decisions.

Posted by jonnypmo on Apr-14-2008 21:14:

I liked last years set a lot, but I didn't think it was long enough. He was really starting to pick it up in the second half but then it was time to stop...booooooo

Posted by thebigmancino on Apr-14-2008 21:27:

this is gonna be awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Posted by ClubHead2 on Apr-14-2008 22:30:

I cant' freakin' wait!

Posted by zachias31 on Apr-14-2008 22:31:

Bummer. Venue was fine, but the sound was crappy and the set was sub-par. Will likely skip this one.

'06 Armin @ Brooklyn Bridge=Best time of my life
'07 Armin @ McCarren Park=Weakest live Armin set to date

The truth is a quality outdoor venue in combination with reputable talent such as Armin in addition to good weather, good people, and live performances can still create a great experience despite the sometimes varying set quality from year to year. Last year Armin didnt even really get outta of "fluffy intro mode" til about 8pm with a 10pm cutoff time due to curfews. But even despite this, I had a very good time and fully reccomend the attendance of this event!

Posted by chimera66 on Apr-14-2008 22:52:

let's establish that he will be NOTHING like he was at bal en blanc, two completely different people. armin plays to the crowd and when it's 5am at a rave he had to play like he did so the chances of hearing that again are slim to none. i love armin but i have to admit last year at mccaren park kinda blew. the sound was bad and his set wasn't that good. not going to say i 100% won't go but i won't rush to buy tickets.

Posted by PvDoBseSSioN on Apr-14-2008 23:31:

not going.... armin's set was boring as shit last year

well put. Why can't Armin play somewhere at 5AM in NY? Canadia has all the luck!

Mccarren is an abandonded pool in brooklyn. As far as i know they have done pretty much nothing to fix it up. It was designed as a pool and has a large wall in the back that makes the sound crappy compared to anyplace that was designed as a club or concert venue.

Also last year for some reason Armins set was not loud enough, The Beastie Boys in the same venue were twice as loud.

The positive is its nice to be outside in the nice weather in a huge space (bigger than central park shows) not many tall buildings around (although new ones are popping up every day) so you are under the open sky.

There were free parties there every Sunday last year (don't think they will be able to do this again) and this was an appropriate use of the space. But to pay $40 for a show that ends at 10pm sharp and has sub-par acoustics and may not even be loud in a abandonded pool in Brooklyn seems very high. I'll prolly pass by for free listen though.

Posted by JayRP on Apr-15-2008 00:51:

gah this is really gay! i was starting to get hyped at the possibility of him playing TW again thinking since the majority opinion was that the pool show blew. I kinda started to get my hopes up and now this!

Come to think of it, I dont even think ive seen armin since TW in 2006!
i'll most likely be skipping out on this one as well. =/
