GSP ...

...will be reclaiming HIS title this Saturday....

Posted by exstasie on Apr-17-2008 02:07:

anyone going to see it?

It should be quite the match! Hopefully there isn't too much pressure on him with everyone on his side!

Can someone tell me WTF is wrong with Shogun? Not been following MMA too closely last few months but he's been crap for a while now.

Posted by matty on Apr-17-2008 02:09:

I had tickets to this (we share one of the sponsors), but unfortunately i'll be chucking flies all weekend!

I'm sure he'll be on his game the second time around

what do you mean 'for a while now'?

he apparently was injured when he fought Forrest...but certainly didn't train well, and gassed halfway through. quite the embarassing loss, IMHO, cause Forrest is NOT that good.

other than that, he's only lost once (via fluke injury) in the last 4.5 years, lol

maybe you're thinking of Ninja (Murilo Rua), his brother? He's been pretty crap lately, but hasn't fought in UFC.

GSP will crush Serra, I think...but what should be a closer, more interesting match is Franklin-Lutter.

I call him George. And yes im excited about this saturday, so hoping George shuts up serra's annoying voice....what a day for sports.

There is also a light heavy weight title fight with Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzege(sp?) two fighters who are clearly past their prime but have yet to face each other. Should still be a good fight. Roy jones was ducking both of them when they were at their peak

haha...yeah he can get a bit annoying.....though i think he will win on saturday....

btw if you dont have the ppv, and dont want to watch it at a regular bar, another option is the Diesel Playhouse....tickets are a bit expensive (depending on where you sit $15-20), but i think thiago alves is hosting it, and they usually have mma girls giving out some free stuff etc...

I think this event will bring the bell center to the crazy level of 1993 Finale against the kings

Posted by She_Fitz on Apr-17-2008 13:12:

My money is on Georges.

I will be in Long Island to watch the fight so it should be interesting to watch in Serra's territory.

Yes, what do the French call him?

Posted by MarkT on Apr-17-2008 21:03:

well, for starters, the French probably correctly spell his name, lol.

Georges...not George

and it's not a French-English thing...I've heard him referred to as GSP by French language reporters and fans.

Jhe ess paeh?

Posted by MarkT on Apr-17-2008 21:13:

^^^ exactly, LOL!

you have to see some of the older TKO and UCC events from Montreal (TKO is still running and is affiliated with UFC to some extent as a feeder league). Many well known fighters have gained notoriety from fighting there...like GSP, Loiseau, Stout, Hominick, Cote, etc. Even some legends like Jeremy Horn have fought for them.

The announcer is awesome...perfect French Canadian accent, but Asian. Funny to see/hear...just like a white dude with a hard core (and real) Jamaican accent

If anyone wants a good source for current MMA news, rumours, event results, interviews, etc:

www.sherdog.com

just avoid the forums.

If you think TA has its share of retards, have a gander at this place (which is mainly Americans who like fighting), lol. I'd say it's 10:1 ratio of small town, ignorant morons to educated, respectful, knowledgeable fans
