Official 2008 NBA Playoffs Thread - Let The Games Begin

The Eastern Conference

(1) Boston Celtics vs.
(8) Atlanta Hawks

(4) Cleveland Cavaliers vs.
(5) Washington Wizards

(2) Detroit Pistons vs.
(7) Philadelphia 76ers

(3) Orlando Magic vs.
(6) Toronto Raptors

The Western Conference

(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs.
(8) Denver Nuggets

(4) Utah Jazz vs.
(5) Houston Rockets

(2) New Orleans Hornets vs.
(7) Dallas Mavericks

******************************************************

Most interesting first-round match-up has to be the Spurs-Suns.

My prediction for second round --
East:
Celtics - Wizards
Pistons - Magic

West:
Lakers - Rockets
Hornets - Suns

Conference Finals:
Celtics - Pistons
Lakers - Suns

Finals:
Celtics - Lakers

Champs:
Lakers

The Lakers are strong this season. I also wouldn't be surprised if they go all the way to the final. As for taking it all, I don't know. It'd be nice though.

Honestly the only three teams I can see taking it are the Celtics, Lakers, or Spurs. I'm sure by looking at my location you know who I think will take it, but I believe every year without too much dissapointment. The only reason we don't have more rings right now is because of the Lakers, but I also know the Spurs have the ability to considerably step their game up to another level the farther they go into the tournament, and they have an amazing amount of playoff experience. Best of luck to all of the teams, and I'm looking forward to some great games.

The Spurs have the toughest draw in the first round I think. The Suns match up awfully well with them, and it will be interesting to see how the Spurs' big guys handle Shaq + Amare. Duncan will have his work cut out for him, and Parker has to match Nash. If Barbosa and co. show up off the bench, the Suns will be tough to beat. A lot of pressure falls on Ginobli for the Spurs.

As much as you can't count the Spurs out ever, I like the Suns in that series.

suns in 6!~

my prediction?

Suns > Celtics in a tough 7game classic.

Shaq gets his 5th, while nash gets his 1st.

Gilbert Arenas is the man:

http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=400032200&start=0

quote:
Im still not talking to the media. Theres nothing we need to talk about. I mean, I might podium talk after I hit a couple game winners But locker room talk is off limits. I dont want to bring out the hype machine right now. Im laying low. Ill let DeShawn hype everything up. Ill leave that to DeShawn and LeBron.

Its funny, those two dont play the same position, but DeShawn told Caron that hell guard LeBron (sounds like a childrens nursery school rhyme) so that Caron can rest his legs. DeShawn was like, Ill run him around and play D on him and get the fouls so you can just go off on the other end. So we have our own little gimmicks were brewing. With a team like the Cavaliers and a player like LeBron, all you need is distractions. We got to be Bush. We got to be Bush-league. Were having everybody talking about the war, when we just want to get the oil. Were Bushing it. Thats all were doing. Were trying distract LeBron over here while we try to get some wins over there. Thats all were doing.

Also, Gilbert noted well that the regular season doesn't matter in the Playoffs... just cause the Celtics dominated the regular season doesn't give them a free ticket now. Dallas was expected to coast to the Finals last year, but they ran up against that one team they struggled to beat all year (Golden State)... the Celtics' team they've struggled most against? The Wizards.

quote:
The Boston game felt like a playoff game to an extent.

Not the atmosphere though, sometimes it got a little bit loud. I thought Game 1 of the season up there was more like a playoff atmosphere because they had so much going on and that crowd was just crazy.

Our crowd didnt need to get into it because they believed in us that we were going to win the game.

I remember when I made the prediction at the beginning of the year that we would beat Boston, everybody laughed at me after we lost. They had their little short giggles. Im glad you guys giggled, because Im going to be giggling the whole summer now.

I think were the only team in the league to beat them three times this season. So, giggle giggle giggle back. You all were so quick to kill me, but five months later I got the last laugh.

Three out of four.

HA!

leb. I won't open my mouth until the cavs win the series. Sound fair

PS. The pool for me toughest choice was suns over san antonio. I see too much power(shaq,stod,nash,etc.. vs finals exp. but their time has gone and past. Suns got a 48/40 at half time so no complaints

Posted by Burn Notice on Apr-19-2008 23:17:

That Spurs/Suns game was easily the best game the first round is gonna offer. Losing by 16 at the half and to come back and beat them in the end. The Spurs have made great improvements on their 3rd/4th quarter drought problem finally.

all below referring to game 1 only
best game: San antonio Vs Suns
best upset Sixers
best player to watch: Dwight howard

The funniest thing that could happen is everyone blood-batteling each other with many 7Games series in the west just to meet Boston in the finals and being easily sweapt 4-0. well that and Shaq running over Bruce Bowen to injury.

Sixers win reminds me of the Bucks winning the Pistons in the 1st round a few years back - nothing to make a big deal of.

averaging 28 ppg, 5.4 apg and 6.3 rpg isn't exactly selfish, he gets his team involved but when they're slackin he steps his game up. period. as for the rest of your whack list, it's all irrelevant on the court. MVP

Watching the Cavs/Wizards series has been very, very entertaining.

Lebron has just shut DeShawn Stevenson right the fuck down. I love it, and I don't even like the NBA all that much.
