Nem - New Techy Trance track

Hey guys,

Its been a while since I posted anything here, but was just curious if you wanted to check out something new that I have been working on.
Its been a while since I finished anything or released anything as I have become a father recently so as you can imagine time is a valuable commodity.

The track is driving tech trance inspired and has a few twists. Although its not finished and has a fair amount of work both in terms of mix down and tidying up to be done you get the general idea of what it will sound like.

As you can see I have also ditched the old Nem identity due to bust up with old label and made a fresh start.

It's the first track on the player.

Alright mate

Nice kick. Really driving with the bass.

I like the percs but they sound a bit dull. Could well be the myspace player though.

Personally not keen on the stabby type synth which plays on its own at the very end of the sample. Just not my taste really.

Overall though the track has pleny of drive and energy that a track like this needs, it really pumps along. I'm sure once you've done a full mixdown and I'm not hearin it through myspace, it will be a solid tech-trance track...

Cheers

Greg

The jury is still out on that one, haven't decided if I will run with that sound. It just served as a starting point for me. It's grown on me but is still a little harsh for me.

Thanks for listening though.

kick really does stand out nice..like the bassdrop
sidechain is done well
mmm....don't like the clap at all @ 1:37
bassline melody pretty cool...
track is a tad generic but well done

I like the slightly roughed-up distorted shuffle sound, it works for tech - i say keep it, or just EQ it only slightly

OK I like the sidechaining on the synth, but not sidechaining on the bassline ... the bass sounds a bit stunted, like each kick sound is pressing it too hard up against the next kick. Either your kick tail is a little too long or your sidechain compressor threshold is a little too low. Ignore this heartily though if you're going for a more wacky stunted feel, because there's room for experimentation in tech trance - i dunno, for me it takes away the drive. Apart from that its a solid tech-er, generic yes but nicely put together!

(EDIT) oh yeah and as Mr Rogers said, that clap around the 1.5minute mark needs cutting or some modification hehe

The bassline is something that is deliberate as I felt so tired of the typical style trance bassline. I might play around with the tail/threshold settings etc a little to see if it creates more drive, but at this time I was after a groove rather than a drive if that makes sense. Just something a little more random.

The clap thing is so dry and horrible its unreal, this I know. Still havent decided what Im doing there but its all good.

Thanks for listening though, your opinions are always valid and greatly appreciated.

Solid. I like the progression-smooth energy. my only wish would be for more complexity and a bit of subtle variation in the very beginning, as it is a bit simplistic for 2008. just my opinion.

hey man,
I checked out your track again, I really liked it, great stuff as always.

I like the kick and fx you've got going on from the start, as well as the programming of the hihats, I never seem to get hihats to sound so driving. I can see this track working wonders in netherland . the clap sound so unbelievably fake, I think it's cool, it sounds nice when you have that rythmic hi filtered synth layered over it. Anyway this sounds very promising! I'm looking forward to the result.

(I love obliterize btw, this is the kind of music I always try to make but never get to it.)

NB

Push by Paul Harrison, that high filtered fx'y thingy right from the start.. it sounds a lt like the sound the "sprayer" makes from the teletubbies .

LOL! Damn, my source of inspiration has been discovered!

Glad you liked it though.

Obliterize isn't really a finished track, just a doodle. Didn't think anyone would notice he he.

Thanks for listening.

hi... listening... the bassdrops are a bit high... i would suggest a lower pitch.. the melody that comes in 1:50 is not so in place imo... and the sidechained pad is... not my style? i think its boring... but i dunno... maybe itll work when ull finish it...

i think you got skillz, but thats just the begining of something, i think its worth finishing it, good luck!

listening:

i actually like the bassdrops, maybe my phone eq is off but it feels good to me

dont like that clap at 1:37 tho, nothing against the sample but it needs a lot more movement when its in the mix, sounds like a broken snaredrum

i actually really liked where this was going at the end, felt a lot of drive coming on, personally i think if you reworked the progression you could use the first two minutes as a bitchin intro (albeit does need a lot of retooling) and then just roll with the energy your starting to build after 2:00 for your melody.

just an fyi- me and my friends still throw jailbreak on on occasion

Will probably rework the intro as suggested by a few people, sounds like good advice to me.

The clap has been reworked totally, it was basically just there as a place holder for an idea I had.

Will post a more completed version as soon as I can. Getting into some other remix work at the moment so that will take priority.

Really happy to hear that you are still dropping Jailbreak.

Also, thank you Vortex, I hear ya, it's not everyones style and as you pointed out, it is the start of something.

Thanks for listening.
