what are the best cyberpunk movies? ( anime and live action )

what do you think?

Posted by RJT on Apr-22-2008 20:53:

Is there specific criteria for what counts as "cyberpunk"?

I ask because I genuinely don't know.

look it up

to quote wikipediatrics:
Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life."

there's usually lotsa techy and hackerish scum roaming about

william gibson writes THE books about the subject.

its a subgenre of fantasy that includes the ability for humans to interface with machines, normally at a neural level.

The Matrix
Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Johnny Mnenomic (Movie sucks, but it's the closest you're gonna get to that genre)
Blade Runner

Posted by Mmanu on Apr-22-2008 23:18:

^^^ true about Johnny Mnemonic, well at least Takeshi Kitano's in it.

Blade Runner
Ghost in the shell, but that's animation.. Robocop and Terminator ( the first one ) are kind of cyberpunk. Mad Max(1) was a cool movie as well.

Posted by Audious on Apr-22-2008 23:19:

Really, your best bet would be to look up a Shadowrun forum. They have a metric shitfuck of threads like this.

i liked Hackers

Posted by on Apr-22-2008 23:38:

I would say Blade Runner, Ghost in the shell and maybe some other anime like Cyber City Odeo 808 and Genocyber

Termintor isn't even remotely cyberpunk.

For anyone that can read, if you love your cyberpunk then you can't go past "snow crash".

Oh and Mad Max isn't cyberpunk

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome would be closer, but still no not really.

Aeon Flux
Akira
Existenz (kinda)
Fifth Element (kinda)
Freejack
Scanners
Lawnmower Man (kinda)

listen to bas. he knows what cyberpunk is.

Though im disappointed RJT hasnt blundered in here with his own weirdo definitions that he loves so very much
