Posted by Damo on May-15-2002 07:23:

that's a long time , even for me... i'm an insomniac... or maybe i choose to stay up... regardless... i haven't gone to bed at normal hours in at least a month.. i stay up all early morning.. do what i gotta do during the day... then sleep as soon as i can get home...

About 48 hours is my limit. But once you go through the stage that you really need sleep it is ok.

Posted by CKYTEP on May-15-2002 09:20:

staying up cracked out huh

Sleep is a strange mistress. You need it daily, but if you don't get it it has no real ill-effects on you.

Sure you get tired and pissed off, but you won't die from a lack of sleep.

I was reading once about this college dude who did an experiment - he went for 2 1/2 WEEKS without sleep. Once he'd missed one sleep pattern he didn't really change for the rest of the time. Strangest thing is, once the experiment finished, he slept for about 18 hours, and was absolutely fine when he woke up, as if he'd been sleeping normally for the past fortnight.

As for myself, I survive on very little sleep. When I was studying at university I got into the habit of going to bed at 3-4am, simply because I very rarely had morning class (and usually didn't go if I did!). Now that I work full-time I have to be up at 7am to arrive on time, but I still end up going to bed at like 1am or whatever.

Madness, but I can't stop

Plus heavy partying weekends usually means that Monday sucks total ass for me hehehe

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure you can die from sleep deprivation, though long before that you'll start having hallucinations and probably just end up passing out.

haha, i've gotten hallucinations from sleep deprivation before.. was during the summer... went like 4 days without sleep and one night i said fuck it and creeped my way upstairs only to see some man leap out at me from a corner and attack... i yelled out loud and jumped slightly... before realizing it was just a hanging jacket... that's the only time i've ever hallucinated..... 'shrooms just make everything distorted and funky for me.... no real hallucinations...

i find that very hard to beleive, as i have seen a study showing how you go mad after 6 or 7 days without sleep... ur brain just cant handle it as it hasnt had a chance to organise everything (i.e. dream), the only way i can see him goin 2 weeks without sleep is on amphetamines... even then thats pushin it a bit

u can safely go 3 or so days without sleep, but anything more than that isnt really a good idea..

Don't forget that your immune system also starts to break down if you don't get sleep. After 3-4 days it starts getting extremely low. I'd imagine that you'd die from a common cold or something long before you reached 2 1/2 weeks. Longest I've gone is just under 3 days I think.

Sleep deprevation will cause hallucinations in everybody eventually.

i once did 50-odd hours without sleep and with pills, thus twitching at high velocity and body shocks came to fruition!

Extract from Focus magazine June 1999

...Excessive lack of sleep in a duration of over 2 weeks can cause serious psychological problems within a person and is also extremely detrmental to the individual's health, eventually resulting in death.
