Public Message from Airwave

Friends, colleagues and fans,

today I was shocked to find out that all new tracks of my album are already downloadable on several servers.

My album "Believe" is scheduled for release after summer..... only i don't know if I should proceed finishing it...

This is really demotivating and it is jeopardising the future of all artists, record companies, publishing, advertising and many more related businesses.

What can i tell u more.......

Airwave

I haven't seen ANY new track from his album anywhere? Why is he claiming that allmost all of the tracks are downloadable?

does he means radio rips or something?

i received the same mail from bonzai
it's indeed a shame for the artists i think, kinda demotivating idd but maybe they need to reconsider prizes i mean they are ripping us off, cd's and vinyl especially are very expensive

Posted by mindshooter on May-15-2002 17:41:

If i download a album i do it cause i will buy it if its good...and im not the only one doing that...when will they wake up and see that me and all the ppl i know IRL would never have listened to trance if it wasnt for Mp3......

Posted by Qtip_00 on May-15-2002 17:53:

mindshooter your on point! I would def not be into trance if it werent for mp3.

Posted by Crazy Serb on May-15-2002 18:02:

All right, another ignorant artist having doubts in the electronic music scene...

What does it matter that some of his tracks are available on the net already (I haven't seen them yet myself)? Just release the album, and cash in on it like the other artists are doing... after all, I don't think that many people are even gonna bother buying that new album of his unless they hear it first (in mp3/real audio form or something)... it's like a standard these days!

The thing he wants to say is:

Show Me The Money

Posted by Excite on May-15-2002 18:23:

if u want to make money go into the pop and rock business you wanker!

MP3's are the best thing to ever happen to trance music.

If noney is the only reason why he would record an album he shouldn't bother in the first place - it can't be that great then.

Posted by breakaholic on May-15-2002 18:49:

tracklisting for Believe:

1. I want to believe (Dolphin mix)
2. Musings of a lifetime
3. Save me
4. Another dimension
5. Devotion
6. Above the sky 2002
7. Alone in the dark
8. Innerspace
9. Ladyblue
10.Theft of the spirit
11.Sunspot (Don't cry my love mix)
12.Trust no One

Not even half of these tracks can be found so it sounds weird if these already are downloadable on several servers....

Laughing my ass off!!!

Poor little fellah! lol!!

If the album hasnt been released , then its his own fault that the tracks are on the net.
If he dont want to see his track on the net , just dont send out promos to Djs and radio stations.
Maybe he should try not doing that...

Wonder how many units his album would sell if he didnt do that...

Yes, noney rules the world.

I didn't say I agree with l-vee on this.

Without mp3 trance wouldn't be this big as it is now, so maybe their wouldn't even be an album without mp3.

Posted by Tranz on May-15-2002 21:45:

I understand why L-Vee is disappointed, but I guess it's hard for artists to look at this as a positive. Obviously he has a huge hit on his hands, if they is a buzz around his album, and bootleg MP3's are already out. I replied to his email, and told him to look at it like it's more exposure, and he is gaining a worldwide audience, that no advertsing group can target. I also explained to him that most people who download MP3's, in turn support the artist by buying the vinyl or CD. I hope he realizes that if it wasn't for the internet & MP3's, trance wouldn't be where it is today.

Ok enough small talk...
... who's got the Airwave CD???

It must be hot.

Posted by Devbert on May-15-2002 21:52:

I live in California in the States, and I never would have listened to trance if it wasn't for MP3's. The first thing I ever listened to that was trance was Trance Control, and slowly over time I listened to more and more stuff, until the trance addiction was so full blown that I downloaded Gigs of livesets and am currently attempting to learn how to DJ.

So you see, if the music is good, people will buy related shit (For me, Vinyl, Tables, Mixer, etc.)

Posted by Eugene on May-15-2002 22:00:

Off-topic, but how much money, do you guys think, Trance artists earn?
Like how much money does MIKE earn?
How about the more obscure ones like Lightforce?

Posted by Rakoon on May-15-2002 22:26:

Well he has a point, but what he doesnt know is that mp3's are promoting his music. Most people would have never heard of him if they havent heard him on mp3. Then half of these people start buying his vinyls. Some people use mp3's just to sample the track to see if they should get it on vinyl or not. Would be pretty shitty to not know how the tracks on the vinyl sound like, buy it anyway, and end up hating it.

I just wish he would direct me to the site with all the tracks from his album

You know, maybe he's just assuming that everybody already has the tracks from his album... *Gets suspiscious* ...So that he can increase his sales for when the album actually does come out... Its all a scam I tells you! Ah who cares, its Airwave

Posted by dig2k on May-15-2002 22:40:

Why are people calling him a wanker and stuff? (or have I just got it wrong) The guy produces the music and even if you don't agree with his views doesn't mean you need to hurl abuse, doing so only makes us look worse.

Anyway, I disagree with the comments made by cresto/airwave. What difference does it make if the album is available now or after its release? If anybody was going to not buy the album and simply download it then all it means is they are going to get it sooner rather than later. People who were going to buy the album anyway are unlikely to change their minds; if people believe the music is worth it they usually buy it. I have downloaded quite a few albums and most of the ones I think are worth the money I have bought, a small few have not been bought due to availability problems admittedly. It's like when tiesto - in my memory was released on the net early (japanese rips etc.) I downloaded it and later bought the album (dutch import). Even if people don't decide to buy the album at least they know about your productions, and if they are to their taste they are more likely to take notice of future releases...
