synth used for lead in "not exactly"

ok hate me cause all a lot of you guys are deadmau5 haters...but i wanted to know if any of you guys knew what kind of synth hes using for the "not exactly" lead. it sounds very crisp and pleasant as the cutoff increases...almost sounds analog.

thanks

Its a moog preset called china something (I forget, as its upstairs and I cant be assed to check) that has been ever so slightly tweaked

sawtooth modulated with filter envelope

he still could have done it with a moog. it has multiple osc. he could have changed the pitch of the second osc to a 5th or whatever. it sounds way too good to not be analog.

It's quite possible to do this lead on a monophonic synth by setting the 2nd osc to a 5th like piku303 said. Here is the melody played with only 1 finger to just show it

Monophonic lead

Sounds pretty crap when you open the filter up

i'm done helping.

needs moar amp+filt release, plus an octave down or something, not deep enuf. And yea, was prollly made on moog. Timothys is a bit closer sound wise.

Wheres teh maouse?

here's my try. it's very hard to match the timbre prefectly

here:

Use moog.

You only need the 1st 2 oscillators for this. Turn off the 3rd.

1st Osc:
-Range 32'
-Saw Waveform

2nd Osc:
-Range 16'
-Saw Waveform
-Transpose +7 semitones

Filter:
Cutoff Freq: ~158.7Hz
Filter Emphasis: 0%
VCF Contour Amount: ~55.76 ST
Attack: 1ms
Decay: 113ms
Sustain: -12.4dB

Loudness Contour:
Attack: 1ms
Decay: 913ms
Sustain: 0dB

Play in C4.

to get the increase in rawness like in not exactly, open up the cutoff freq and the contour amount knob at the same time.

hmm, im using minimonsta vst.
not sure how it translates to the voyager.

heres the sample:
www.underwatermissions.com/notexactly.mp3

forgot to mention, you do need to use the 3rd osc, but only when you're increasing the rawness.

3rd OSC at 8' range, saw waveform, +7 semitones.
increase the mix from 0 to full in when youre opening the cutoff and VCF.

result = nordlead3 .... 2 saw Oscs (one with pitch tracking off) , 2 unison count, monophonic. + delay.

done.

piku303 - your Virus does sound as good, it just sounds different. Each synth has it's place. NL3 complements a Virus really well.

sooner or later this month, ill post up a lil more "useful" tour of the lab... got quite a bit of new tricks n toys since i did that random ass walkthrough of mau5trap on YouTube some 8 months ago, so the layout and methods have changed a bit here n there in some areas.

always wanted to do a few tutorials on this n that... should be fun.
