The May Sessions: Neuchatel - Skellig

Hi!
New track is up, finally...lol...no, it's been quite a bunch of tracks these last weeks. But here's one more to begin the May Sessions with, and I must say I'm more happy with this than those in April. The vocals are sampled from Loreena Mckennit - The Finale, and the whole thing has a little angelistic feel to it, therefore Skellig (which is the same title as another song by her). I recommend to listen to the middle of the track where it has a nice calm breakdown.

I created this almost whole yesterday night, and did some few hours today, but i feel have a feel it needs a little more depth...any tips?

Please add some comments thank you.

Hi!

Your track's pretty good, arrangement is good and the production is good too (although for my taste I think there's a little too much of the sidechain compressor pump in the main part for my liking - or too many parts affected by it - it makes the track flex too much?).

As for what's missing? Dunno, I think it may be the lack of a thick sound? Your synths are quite thin sounds, as are sounds like piano and guitar so maybe use something a little thicker in there? Less high pass / band pass, some low pass synths? The other thing may be too many elements? There's alot of ideas in there but no central 'theme' to link them - promote one of those ideas to the lead theme or even drop some out and make a new one if that's not working?

Don't get me wrong, there's a great track in there ready to pop out, just needs a little TLC!

Good luck!

Thanks man. Very pro listening there, this is really helpful! just to hear some words about the track opens up several new channels of creativity.

wow, nice track, is it possible to get a full mp3 version of the track?

I really like the side chained Tiesto-Traffic sounding synth, how did you make that? (sounds very polished 2). I like the basslines in the whole track even the one you apearantly don't like yourself. Only thing I can really point out is that the melody in the breakdown didn't touch me at all and that the transition from breakdown to the beat didn't sound natural. Also some HP filterted percussion ( SVD - type) could fatten some parts of the track. Other than that...

Hey thanks for nice comments dude! Yes guess it has not reached its potential on the emotional plane yet, working on it though. You are correct the breakdown needs more fat to the bone. And thank you for the percussion tips.

The sidechained synth has a compressor chained to the bassdrum pattern, and just some knob tweaking on the compressors attack and release, and there you go...its very easy in Orion Platinum, but this is also the only software Ive used this fx. I havent tried FL, and I'm having problems figuring it out for Reason 4. Ableton Live has an even more advanced feature of doing this, so you can easily do it if you master your tracks in ableton.

When I feel its finished I will give you the download.
