Goodbye Toronto

After being involved in The Toronto club scene since 1995 and worldwide even longer than I care to remember.

Toronto has been fun , I have made some really great friends both TA's and DJ's.

However the politics in club management has finally left a nasty taste in my mouth and so I have decided to leave altogether.

I will still lurk around in here as always but won't be around the clubs anymore

I am in effect semi- retiring and i will be taking some time off , followed by consulting work and individual contracts for people i can trust

Russell

hell yes, for once I totally agree with you
I cannot even discuss the bullshit I have put up with
Some TA's actually know the whole story

That's a real shame, Russ. So sorry to hear that.

I hope that everything works out for you

Rach x

Yah I've been hearing these same stories from several ppl over the years...

There are always politics in the entertainment industry...

Sorry it put such a bitter taste in your mouth that you feel you need to drop out completely...

good luck...

do i know you???

Russell sounds familiar...

Russell,

I'm sad to hear this - but trust you are making the right move for the right reason.

Please do keep in touch. Remember - it is "ok" to come out of retirement...

How does one 'retire' from going to all clubs in toronto, I can understand having differences with X amount of clubs/people but theres gotta be at least one that is alright

Posted by junkie_val on May-05-2008 02:58:

all the best to you russel

I have never lived in T.O only commuted to work
since i am no longer going to work in Toronto clubs I don't intend to drive the 120k each way just to go out
i have seen every dj i want to see , so now i am more likely to start doing miami and ibiza more often as well as visiting home more (uk) to see family and reconnect with friends who still work in the uk scene, which may bring about me relocating back to europe

best wishes.

I don't think we've formally but I've always enjoyed reading your insights into the club scene in Toronto

Posted by rabbitjoker on May-05-2008 03:04:

You've always been a gentleman and given me a true appreciation into what all goes on in order to successfully pull of a night.

Thank you!

Good luck, Russell. Won't be the same without you! Thanks again for all your generosity and PLUR... lol I guess that concept doesn't exist anymore.

Where are you moving to?

Posted by Intangible on May-05-2008 04:16:

You are from Barrie (looked at your myspace page).

You must be a nice guy.

I never met you, but wish you the best of luck where ever you go from here.

Posted by Endlesswave on May-05-2008 04:41:

I've met you once at the Docks previously for a party along with a lot of other TAs and you were nothing but hospitable and generous even showing us a tour of the reno's at the time. Sorry to hear about the troubles politically. It bites that you have to retire because of it. I wish you well in your new endeavours Russell! All the best.

Sorry to hear about all the club politics that have caused you to leave your job. I only met you a handful of times, but right away I could tell you had a passion for your work.

Best of luck with your future endeavors.

I think I've only met you once very briefly, but given the amount of amazing parties you've been involved with that I've been to, and given the high level of respect people on this board and other people in the scene have for you, this is a sad day for the scene in Toronto.

It's dissapointing that someone who's been in the scene for this long has to call it quits. Good luck with whatever you decide to do man.

Posted by Abercrombie on May-05-2008 11:56:

Russ, I've been waiting a while to meet you personally, and one day...

I hope the break from the politics will revive a new outlook on life. The scene can be quite obstructive of reality. I've known a friend or two who changed careers they never thought they ever would, and discovered there are greener pastures, and wished they would have done it sooner. I hope you fare well.

On a side note... your departure from Circa now perhaps indicates more failures at Circa and a sign of things to come.

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-05-2008 12:48:

All the best...change is good, politics as the catalyst or not.

Posted by techead on May-05-2008 22:42:

Thank you all for the kind words. it means a lot to me
Hopefully I will make it down for a boat cruise this summer and bump into a few friends

Always seemed like a cool dude, too bad I never got to meet you. I'm still trying to get through your massive funk list from 2005.
