Can you demo Torq for free??

Obviously not with external controllers, but I wanna play around with the Torq software itself. I thought the software was free anyway? Is this possible? I'd like to play around with the some of the VDJs before I buy the entire package.

i don't think it's possible. I remember once i tried to turn on torq but didnt' have the connectiv connected and it told me to connect and try again, but then again there might be ways around this? good luck

Yup I tried the same thing. It told me to connect the USB. Is there a crack anywhere?

Can someone tell me what the browser is like at least? I hear some complaints about it but don't know why

if you have any m-audio gear i htink it should load fine, be it trigger finger , x-session.. you can always try and return
i personally use an older version than the latset that has the 'old' brwoser which i like more because i organize my files by filename and its perfect for what i need

yeah I don't have anything m-audio. I just wanted to see how it felt. How does the broswer work and why do people think it sucks? Can you search itunes style?

People think it sucks? They must have been dropped a lot as children. I love it, it integrates with your itunes so any playlist you have in itunes is in torq. Plus you can search liek itunes as well. Good product.

Yeah, I just read a lot of complaints about it for some reason. I think maybe freezing might be a problem with it? But if you can just search in the browser like itunes where you just type a word and it automatically just pops up any song containing that word than I don't know what the issue is? Like you don't have to actually click on a search button and wait for torq to search for the song do you? Cause that would be pretty ghetto. Wish I could just test it out...

correct, as you type somethign in it autoatmically filters it out.. theres also an "ignore" section too

OK great, thanks. Not sure what people on some of the other forums are complaining about then. Djforums bashes torq pretty badly. Since I only dj in my room its hard to justify the serato price. But the way some people bash torq it makes me hesitant to pick up torq. So if anyone knows a way to demo torq let me know!

Ohhh... ok it "freezes" for a split second when you click "library" out of your itunes playlists if you have a HUGE library but the music continues to play.... I've never had any trouble with it at all tho, it's never skipped a beat or anything liek that, the interface just lags for a second is all. That may be what the complaint is centered around. Its actually quite a small nuissance and I think that the version 1.5 fixed the problem anyways.

Oh OK cool. Are there any other bigger nuissances with torq you've discovered? I think some of the complains are about not being able to hide the mixer on the interface. Other than some debatable stability issues I don't understand why torq gets some hate? Maybe its just the SSL fanboys

Yeah man go for it! I've had it almost since it came out and it hasn't failed on me live once, and the one time it did was user error on my part. I run it on a MacBook Pro and a now 6 year old maxed out Dell laptop and it works perfectly on both.

The closest thing to "demo" of it would be if you buy an X-Session Pro midi controller, you get Torq LE, which is like a paired down version of it. It's like 100 bucks for the package.

Check out www.torq-dj.com too if you haven't already. There's some great vids on there as well as the forums.

Good stuff! Sucks that 1.5 is delayed until who knows when. But there is 1.0.7 that is coming out this summer supposidly that will fix many of the popular issues. I'll have to get my boy at pssl to hook me up!

There's no other "nuissances" I've noticed. I think people hate on it because its liek 1/3 the price of a trackor or FS set up and its actually better in my opinion. Torq conective is like 115 bucks. I like it far more that SSL or FS.

Well that's good to hear. Should be fun to play around with it
