things i wanna see in a near future on my brand new mixer

things i wanna see in a near future on my brand new mixer

- LFO hooked up to the volume and pan

- expander / gate so you can really isolate specific sounds

- volume faders curve control on aaaaall mixers

I dont know about the LFO on the pan thing? You dont really wanna be panning your basslines and kick drums?

No idea what an xpander is but a gate is a cool idea but dont see how that would work? You gotta play around with the threshold , attack, release and hold to get it sounding nice usually. Dont have time to tweak that stuff while the track is playing live without anyone noticing?

Anyways please show me some examples of using those effects in mixing I want to see if its possible!

well... the original idea was to isolate specific sounds in a track (during a mix-in/out) and then play with them.

using our good old filter/res/eqs combo, we manage to partly isolate them but in my opinion i feel we re pretty limited.

1. gate. lets put all the attack/release stuff aside a minute.
I think it would be pretty hot if when i mix-in a track, im able to tell my mixer not to let the sound pass unless it goes up a certain level. in other words...have this minimal track going on..pretty much just a beat but with some trippy percs.... i HP it so i remove the bass, put up a lil res, apply some EQs on it, mainly remove a lil high and boost up the mids.... but still....whenever the perc isnt playing, u could still hear an ugly filtered, EQed bassline. there goes the gate..... VOLUME OFF.... no need to touch ur volume fader....anymore.

2. LFO. LFO on the volume.... no need to explain i guesss
lfo on the pan would work if you manage to isolate ur sounds way enough so you wont hear that noisy bassline :P

but yea, basically its been a while ive been thinking about ways to isolate as much as possible sounds i like in my track, since im getting more and more into minimal tracks.
and also, i was looking for ways to do it in an analog way.

1.2 gate when you remember you have attack/release/hold/tresh

for this, i think you wouldnt have a choice but to go digital. i dunno if its actually possible but there must be a way to program an algorithm or wtv that can actually decide whats the best attack/realease for the loudest sound playing.
treshold would be something you control yourself....
hold would be better if controlled too...

but yea....these ideas are way more meant for minimal music.

the main idea of the thread is to think of new gadgets we could integrate onto our shiny lovers...huu..mixers

How would you get the gate to not remove your other sounds though? Im not really good with gates, I never really used one so I cant help much with the idea. After the filter on the bassline it will be barely noticeable but a gate will affect all the other sounds a bit to i think.
