Jake J - Breaking the Disco

So after a long time of not getting a set up, here it is. This is a recording of my opening set at a Seattle monthly called Broken Disco. It's my first time touching decks since my gear broke down in December and my first time spinning all of these tunes, so there were a few mistakes. Notably, accidentally hitting the line/phono switch with my headphone cord during Hard South Americans, and spinning the Four Minute Edit of Never Want to See You Again a second time instead of the original. Oh well, what's a "first-time"-ish set without errors, eh? Starts out a bit slow because the club was fairly empty at the time, but picks up after a few tracks.
01. Loco Dice - Breakfast at Nina's [Desolat]
02. Perc - Work Harder (District One Remix) [Perc Trax]

05. Dani Koenig - Hard South Americans (Loco Dice 'Chunk the Funk' Remix) [Four.Twenty Recordings]

Man, whatever genre this is, I'm definitely getting into it, my gf too. Only sets I download these days are the sets i see in cor whores' sigs, and i fucking love them all, this being no exception at all
Spot on chap!
Oh hai.
fucking enjoyed this, flow was great, not keen on that mix of never going to see you again
only gripe is that whilst the flow was good, the flow in the BPM wasn't, needed more speed towards the end IMO
Finally threw this on this afternoon whilst cleaning and submitting resumes to jobs - I didn't know it was a live set while I threw it on, but I also wasn't paying much attention to the mixing either, which I think says good things about how minimal the errors are.
Though I've been a huge fan of Voorn for some time now, I have never really liked his remix of Dangly Panther all that much before, but I thought you hit the nail on the head with it here. Really seemed to be a bit of a turning point in the set, where the flow just seemed to pick up a bit - though I'll agree with Az that I would have liked to see it get a bit quicker. I can sympathize though, it's something I've really tried to work on for a long time and still not something I feel particularly good at.
This one definitely shines in the programming - you didn't just pick tunes that sounded good mixed together, but also kept the vibe of the set chugging along without ever really feeling disjointed or anything.
All in all nice work - so will it be another year and a half or so til we get another promo?

Thanks guys!

gettin'...
Damn Jake. This was awesome. It's times like when I put this on during my car-ride to work that I remember why I still come back to TA. I haven't listened to trance in years, but this site continues to be a treasure trove of good house and techno. This set is exemplar of that for me. Really loved the flow, programming, etc., but the track selection was what really had me grooving. The first thirty minutes was superb. I knew you had really good taste in music, but this still caught me a bit by surprise. I hadn't heard any of these tracks yet, so it was very fresh to me. The bass-lines sewed up seamlessly through the first half of the set, and there was just enough swing to keep my finger tapping on the wheel. I listened to this a few times this weekend as I was busy moving my shit from an apartment across town, and the only thing that motivated me to make an extra trip on Saturday was knowing that I still had 30 minutes of your mix to get through.
Ace mix. Enjoyed it a lot. Only gripe would be the same as Az and RJT's -- that it didn't pick up the pace at all. Overall I loved it. You should definitely record more often.
I really wasn't expecting reviews like these, so it really makes me happy that you all have enjoyed it. Oddly enough, had I not forced myself to put this up you probably never would've heard it. I'm so picky that every time I go back through it I find another reason as to why I wouldn't have put it up.
It's really nice to know that I'm definitely being far too hard on myself. Thanks guys!
great. now who's going to fix the disco?
