You.

Don't run at 99% CPU.

CPU usage has nothing to do with it. If anything it may be indicitive of a process running away and causing a crash, but just having a program use %100 cpu shouldn't be crashing your rig. Stop visiting shady pr0n sites and you won't get weird virii.

In terms of diagnosing the problem, more info is needed. What programs were running, what were they doing, what was running in the background, what does your process list look like... etc.

Its very simple really. Revert back to XP. I have computers that have Vista and XP running on them and I would NEVER produce music on a Vista machine. I only run Vista on a seperate PC for gaming only to take advantage of DX10.

Why are you running Vista? If you really want to write music put XP back on that machine. If you must have Vista, setup a dual boot and only use Vista for web surfing or whatever. I support Vista on a daily basis in a workplace environment and I can tell you it is nothing but a garbage nightmare and a productivity leech. I move people back to XP all the time because they just want to get their work done and are tired of the bluescreens, constant hourglassing, and general sluggishness for no reason at all. That is the beauty of Vista.

What decent directx10 games are there? Crysis looks better with the directx9 hack.

There are several. The list is growing and will continue to grow. Same thing happens with all the DX releases.

Bioshock, UT3, and Assassin's Creed to name a few. I can't speak for the way Crysis looks as it does not run as I would like it too. I'm saving it until I get a 2nd videocard for SLI.
