Balance 011

Alright, so I've listened to Balance 011 for the third time...
I wanted to give it another listen now when the hype has subsided.
I'm wondering what type of house is that?
Because, quite unfrankly, I find it somewhat boring.
It sounds too standard and too regular.
What are your thoughts?

Btw, Original Series: OS_0.3 is better by far, although the style of both mixes sounds quite similar.

Luke Fair's right? That would probably fall under Progressive House.

Posted by Gauss on May-11-2008 12:49:

Yeah, Luke Fair mixed it.
It says progressive house, deep house, house and electro on Discogs, but they're not always right.

I liked Balance 11 quite a lot. It really is a blend of house, some progressive, some deeper and some that's just... house.

...i can see the highlights... ...everywhere in my life...

It's probably my favorite Balance release actually. <3 Fair.

love this guy!

I love Balance 011

I bought some singles from it actually too. The Francois K track, Highlights (Charles Webster Remix) and K.T.B.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on May-11-2008 18:36:

The Francois K track was fucking awesome- the best thing on there for me.

Probably my favourite balance-compilation (After 005, duh.)

Posted by Gauss on May-11-2008 22:06:

I agree, Highlights is one of Balance 011 highlights.

Posted by Quinyx on May-11-2008 22:17:

Balance 011 is one of my favourites too. I'd probrably slot it right behind 005 and my personal fav, 007. Chris Fortier did an unbelievably good job with that compilation.

Balance 012 gets more plays than this by far. All 3 discs were mind fucks .

True- it encompasses a decent amount of the House spectrum, and I really don't think it fits squarely into one category or the other, though from what I remember, it's actually pretty light on the Prog. House (contrary to my expectations).

truth!

i like OS 0.3 as well, but i don't think it's as nearly as well thought out as Balance 011. the way the disc starts off kind of bothers me actually, but it does have lots of good tracks (especially Sebastien Leger - Electric).

I love this Balance. The segment from 'Hypnos - Red Light' all the way to 'Tiger Stripes - Amphytrion' on disc one is pure bliss.

My favorite tracks on disc two are: 'Dusk 'n' Prayd - Playing With Fire (Elextroworld Mix)', 'Schwab - DJs In A Row (Tom Middelton Cosmos Dub)', '16 Bit Lolita's - Difficult if not Impossible', 'Klement Bonelli - Ethna (12th Floor Mix)', and my personal favorite 'Marnix - Fire! (Jamie Anderson Mix)'.

Again, the segment from 'Klement Bonelli - Ethna (12th Floor Mix)' all the way to the end is pure bliss.

Excellent mixes by Luke Fair!

Luke Fair is my hero.

My Balance 11 cd skips like mad on the final Humate track on disk 2 Awesome CD, my favorites are Highlights on disk 1, Difficult If Not Impossible, and the Francois K song on disk 2.

Posted by lcid on May-12-2008 18:50:

speaking of highlights, the highlight of my weekend was finding an awesome Luke Fair hat that actually fits my head...

I don't know how anyone could not appreciate this album. At least disc 1...it's one of the most smoothly mixed and programmed CDs ever, imo. It's just so effortless sounding.

Also, we have a Fair + Fanciulli boat cruise coming up for Canada Day...'cept I don't think I'll be able to go. :/

I honestly wasn't a big fan of 011 when i listened to it but apparently i need to give it another chance.

Nah, stick with your opinion. I already tried "giving it a chance" after reading all the positive reviews also.

Just not into it. It's decent, but I find it no where near the level everyone else rants about.

That transition of Highlights into War is incredible though...

I usually give things at least 2 listens but hadn't gotten around to it on this yet (nor did i really care to) but i can't count the number of times i have either disliked or not been impressed by a track to come around a month later hear it again and been blown away. I probly just don't pay enough attention sometimes

Me neither. Despite my willingness to get into this one, I found that attention-grabbing moments were few are far between for me., though it is most competently mixed and sequenced in my opinion.

Aside from this, both discs just seemed to coast by while listening to them.
