BioShock (The Film)!

Yep, it's true!

Industry rumors after the game's release suggest a film adaptation of the game would be made, utilizing similar green screen filming techniques as in the movie 300 to recreate the environments of Rapture.[116] On May 9, 2008, Take Two announced a deal with Universal to produce a BioShock movie, to be directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Carribean) and written by John Logan (The Aviator).

Personally, I'm stoked. The videogame was hard-to-the-core.

Since Boll is not directing it, i figure we can at least hope that it will be a decent movie.

If whoever makes this fucks it up I will never forgive them.

agreed, but i'm happy Universal is behind this, and not some private (like the previously mentioned Uwe Boll) bullshit company.

that increases chances for a decent cast, and a reasonable budget for the movie to be made proper.

The thing about Bioshock is that it's pretty much the best video game I can think of insofar as how I think the story can translate from game to movie, but the problem any director/actors will have is going to be nailing the vibe/tone of the environment (which is what made the game for me).

The level of detail and production value in the game were just so high and so incredibly well done that I hope recreating that, and not adapting the story for the game for the "big screen audience", is what Universal prioritizes.

Definitely excited - just with a bit of a cautious outlook.

agreed. also, the mentioned style of green-screening like 300, will definitely help to recreate some of that "dark" vibe that i got from the game. so much of it was focused on shadows, and i think in 300 that was one of my favorite directorial things - the shadows playing with stark contrast of colors.

also thinking about what ending approach they'll take, killing little sisters? saving them?

That's a good question, and my gut says they'll take the "savior" route - but you never know.

I will say that I thought the "savior" ending was far more satisfying than the "megalomaniacal world domination" ending.

It be cool if they left the ending ambiguous.

I think it's a neat idea, but it wouldn't really work for this property (at least in my mind), only because morality choices are kind of a large part of the story as a whole. It probably wouldn't make sense for them to have the protagonist making all these kinds of "good/bad" choices and then leave it open ended.

Though I imagine if they could manage to pull it off in an interesting way, it'd likely be the most satisfying way for them to end it. I just think it would be tough.

Never really liked the game for some reason so I'm pretty indifferent. Didn't even finish the game.

I'm trying to think of video game movies that I really enjoyed

Is this coming out before or after the dungeon siege movie? Both totally have a great plot which is why they announced a movie for each.

Well at least they have a big-name director on board. That makes me at least somewhat confident.

Yes. It will more than likely suck.

Why do they keep doing these things? Bioshock is a work of art, leave it be FFS.

Posted by Acton on May-12-2008 17:20:

in the right hands this film would be brilliant.......just like the game was........

.........but it wont be, it will be shit, it will be done by shit people.

in general, movie adaptations of games are rubbish, the best one was silent hill and it wasnt anything amazing

i bet they cast the rock as the leading role
