Invisible Grin Sleeping on the Floor

I was reminded of this thought after reading Lucid's "sleeping bags" thread.

So here goes.

I sleep on the floor. Not always, but in most cases I'll be on the bed, wake up after 4-6 completely restless and unable to sleep. And it's not just my bed. It's any bed (and believe me I sleep around...in different beds). So I decide to sleep on the floor I usually have no problem falling back asleep. It's as if my bed is too fluffy and bouncy but the floor just plasters itself into my body (gravity I suppose) and it feels good. I like the pressure. Then after 1-3 hours I'm good to go back on the bed for the remainder of my natural sleeping episode.

Why is this? I have come up with two ideas...

(1) I am bed-autistic!

I once saw this vid about this autistic chick (lesbian?) who went to some farm and saw these cows get squished in some sort of container. She figured if she could invent something like it to squish her and hold her in place (sorta like holding an ADHD kid still) it would feel like she could get ahold of herself and learn how to communicate and break away from her Autism. And it worked to a good degree. [EDIT: it's Temple Grandin thanks to MrJiveBoJingles)

I feel like my sleeping on beds is like bed autism and when I sleep on the floor it squishes me to help me fall asleep.

(2) I have a tactile stimulation / sensitivity disorder

Another idea is that all the beds are too soft and I overstimulate certain receptors under my skin that cater to light soft breezy touches (i.e. soft blankets). Plus it makes my skin itch and I hate scratching myself at night when I'm asleep because it wakes me up (i.e. taking your hand and reaching all the way down to your ankles to scratch). But when I'm on the floor (always carpeted!) I can just wiggle my body and it scratches a huge surface and feels good. Plus I feel like it's the right balance of tactile stimulation (both soft from the carpet, and hard from the floor surface).

Anyone else have this happen to them too?

c0r version: clitorisus is the plural of clitoris. It is not "clitori" because it's origin is Greek, not Latin.

How do you bite your pillows if you sleep on the floor?

Posted by mezzir on May-13-2008 06:26:

i used to do this actually, but not carpet. god not carpet, hard wood floors were amazing though. mostly when i was little, if i couldn't sleep in my bed i'd just move a blanket and a pillow down to the floor and sleep there. needless to say i've had hip/knee problems since birth, scoliosis up the wazoo, and generally other weird joints (shoulders especially), so it may come as no surprise that i enjoyed sleeping on hard surfaces instead of a normal bed

I used to sleep in a sleeping bag, but I didn't really close it or anything, so it was pretty much like sleeping on the floor, and clitoris shares the same root as the word ladder [source].

If I'm staying somewhere and I get a choice to either sleep on the floor or a couch I almost always pick the floor assuming it has carpet.

I'm too big for alot of couches (6'3) and have schliosisisis, or used to rather but my back hurts pretty often.
