Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel
Anyone ever watch this? If so, did you see the one where he went to Taiwan and ate "stinky" tofu?
I haven't seen this one, but is it kind of similar to Anthony Bourdain's show on the Food Network ("A Cooks Tour" is the title, I think)?
I'm sure they emphasize weird foods much more heavily on this, but Bourdain's show is definitely all about immersing yourself in the eating culture of another society, regardless of how it jibes with western societal norms.
The premise is very similar, but they both go about it in VERY different ways. Anthony doesn't usually get that much into the outskirts as much as this guy does. He usually will start in the major city, and then branch out to a bunch of smaller cities.

| Originally posted by RJT Yeah, Bourdain doesn't hit many of the kinds of "tribal" or maybe "less civilied" places that the Bizarre Foods guy seems to, but I think the anthropological approach to studying food is pretty awesome regardless of each of these fellows different methods. Will check this one out some time. |

So long as it's fried, I'll probably at least try it.
Extra points for butter frying or deep frying.
The one where he swallowed a live octopus and the tentacles were reaching out his mouth trumped all...

Only saw the episode when he went to the Philippines and ate a soup made from a bull's ass and balls.
He can eat fried exotic animals, but he can't eat durian

The Mad Cook section in Madventures is the best
I've never heard of this Bizarre foods, but I've seen the Anthony Bourdain's show and it's cool.
I always watch it..that guy has a really broad pallet. He was eating opossum and racoon in the south last night and liked it. Not even the guy that took him to the place wanted any part of that. The thing that bugs me about it is they have his mic either sensitive or close to his mouth and you can hear him chomping and smacking away on the food.
Any Chinese or Japanese could eat what he is eating. Probably because half the weird shit is from both countries.

| Originally posted by gehzumteufel haha yeah. Have you had that fruit though? I wonder how bad the smell really is. Obviously it is pretty bad, considering the ban by private enterprise indoors. |
