libertadores

the "southamerican champions league" is very underrated on the world. i've seen the matches summaries on youtube and they don't ask too much to the UEFA one.

anyone here aware of this tournament?

i know eddie follows this. there's probably a couple more that follow it too.

Would love to see Atlas beating Boca (Most important match of the four). As for the S�o Paulo vs Fluminense match, I think S�o Paulo will go on, as will San Lorenzo.

I could care less about America vs Santos. America might surprise us all by advancing but I don't see them going any further.

I like America but I don't see them doing things this year. I really love Memo.

Atlas? Isn't that a Mexican team?

Hmmm... I wonder how that'll work out, considering Concacaf champion's league start next year

Mexican teams can play in both Champions leagues (South American and Concacaf) Im not sure exactly which teams qualify to which but I think the better teams go to the Libertadores and the Concacaf champs league is like the UEFA cup for Mexico in terms of who qualifys to that tournie.

Sao Paulo and San Lorenzo should pass as well. I hope America passes because they have had a shit season in the mexican leauge and this is all they got (event though i hate mexican futbol)

I think it's the other way around. CONCAFAF is for the best teams, the champion of each league. Maybe you got it confused because the best teams always end up playing in the Libertadores, oh excuse me, Santander's Libertadores.

so lets get this straight. I do remember that the Mexican league held like a separate in league qualifying tournament to get into the Libertadores. And the CONCACAF champs league gets the Mexican teams based on on the final standings of the season?

as for libertadores, the FMF (mexican football federation -spanish acronym-) organizes a mini-tournament between 8 teams to drain 2 teams going directly to group stages in the tournament. a third one, plays a pre-qualification game to win its access to a group as well.

CONCACAF champs, which is attended by the champions of both the clausura and apertura mexican tournaments.

as a personal opinion, our football "league" (they like to call it like that but is not a league at all) is a fukin joke. it lacks consistency and regularity, because it has the "liguilla" which is an actual tournament inside the very same tournament (sorry, league) with the best 2 teams of each group, but as some groups are weaker than anothers, four teams get the chance to get in said tournament, also known as "repechaje". i.e. the 12th team in general table gets the chance of go through and, for some reason, beat the best team of the tournament in an 2legs match and becomes the champion. how fuckin pathetic is that, the best team worked their asses off to make the most points by winning matches and playing good football and thanks to the liguilla a very low team gets the chance of beating them and becomes "the best team of the league".

anyway, that was off topic. let's continue with the BOca pwning, shall we?

lol that sucks....here in Colombia its pretty simple. We have 2 seasons in a year, winners of both seasons qualify for the libertadores and the 3rd team to qualify is whoever had the best overall points in both seasons.
Also we have a playoffs for each season, top 8 teams after the season is over are split into 2 groups and play each other twice. Winner of each group play in the championship game.

Ive never gotten into the Mexican league even if univision and telemundo tried to cram it down our throats(if they wanna show hispanic leagues on TV they should cater to the hispanic audience more rather than the Mexicans only and show/talk about the Argie,Brazillian,Colombian leagues etc.. a little more.)
Also the Mexican league has some Colombian players on it and I still dont watch haha.

I hope Univision gets rid of that golazo! asshole! asshole! asshollllllle!!! commentator that theyve had since the 2002 world cup. Been saying this since then.

I am not very familiar with the mexican leauge, but it is a drag to watch. They do have exiting players but the games themselves bore me. The only time i watch mexican teams is for the copa libertadores.

You got it right. However, CONCACAF already changed this. Now it is four teams from Mexico.

The top two clubs from each of the four groups will advance to the Quarterfinals. These eight teams will be drawn into four Quarterfinal pairings to play home-and-away match-ups in February of '09. The four Quarterfinal winners will then play in two Semifinal home-and-away match-ups in March and April of '09 with the two Semifinal winners squaring-off in the home-and-away Final in late April of '09. The following is the qualification process for the inaugural tourney which replaces the CONCACAF Champions' Cup: NORTH ZONE: CANADA: Impact de Montreal, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play a home-and-away round-robin tournament from May 27 to July 22, with the winner advancing as the Canadian representative. MEXICO: The tournament champions and runner-ups of the '07 Apertura and '08 Clausura seasons progress to the CONCACAF Champions League. San Francisco FC has already qualified for the '08-'09 tourney after winning the Torneo de Clausura 2007. CARIBBEAN ZONE: The three Caribbean representatives will come from the annual CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Club Championship. The '07 Caribbean Champion, Harbour View FC of Jamaica, and Runner-up Trinidad & Tobago's Joe Public FC have already qualified. goofy way for San Lorenzo to give up the goal with that goalies blooper. Quito looks pretty good, both Argentinian teams are in serious trouble going into the 2nd legs.
