best towns to live in southern florida?

So i've spent the past year in Cleveland, Ohio b/c of work...they sent me out here to do a job, which i did, very well, and i've earned the right to tell them where i want to move next.
i've narrowed it down to the atlantic coast side of florida.
so some questions i have for anyone who may be nice enough to answer-
Only city i've ever spent any time in is Miami/South Beach and that was during WMC, so i know its totally an unrealistic view...and i know not all towns are like that along the coast.

1) What are the average costs of apartments?
2) what are the best towns to live in if you're 25, single, and vegetarian (whole foods is NECESSARY!)?
3) Where are places to completely AVOID if you don't wanna get robbed or live in totally shitty conditions (not to be taken as "snobby" but i'm used to clean quiet neighborhoods in white suburbia--call it a comfort thing i guess, but i just wanna know i can park my car and not have to worry about it being broken into/stolen etc and have a clean fairly quiet apartment/condo)
4) what is West Palm Beach like? SERIOUSLY, what is it like?

any additional info anyone has...best nightlife, best beaches, etc greatly appreciated.

Sorry I feel so lazy to answer all of your questions right now lol... but I live in Pembroke Pines it is an awesome area! Your right in between Ft Lauderdale and Miami. The area is very nice got a bunch of new shopping malls that just opened. No you wont get shot/robbed/or anything here lol...

fort lauderdale has some nice parts. i just moved here from a little more inland (like 20 mins lol)... and pompano also... i love it here in fort lauderdale, so close to everything...

and whole foods is like within 5 miles

Ya I would say Ft. Lauderdale everything in west palm is starting to get really expensive unless you wanna live in the ghetto same can be said for miami.

Broward would be my suggestion as far as north goes. Palm Beach is waaaaayyy to quite IMO. In any case in Broward maybe close to the beaches??

I'll let the other folks answer.

ok 2 stores i could possibly get are Aventura in north miami area and Boca Raton.
I'm pushing hard for Aventura b/c business is better year round.
suggestions in that area of nice not too overly expensive places to live?

Posted by chach on May-14-2008 01:16:

I would say it's the same for both if not more in boca as in locally everyone in Ft.Lauderdale would prefer Towncenter to going all the way to Miami.

Oh and there is tons of nice places in boca that are cheap my friend just moved into a nice 2 floor townhouse for 1750 a month it's a nice neighborhood too.

if i live alone max i can do is $900/month otherwise i gotta get a roommate and i'm not really feeling that...
how is traffic up in that area? i'm assuming traffic blows just about anywhere near miami/ft lauderdale at any given time of day...just wanna know what i'm in for cuz i havent had to drive to work in a year (i live across the street from my mall here)

I live in downtown Ft. Lauderdale and like it. Good location close to bars, restaurants, shops, etc. Only crime I've seen are some homeless asking for money and drunk people leaving bars can be loud.

Las Olas has good, but overpriced shops. Boca mall and Aventura mall are close by. Also, there is a Galleria in Ft. Lauderdale that's decent.

There are also some nice places near the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. If you can rent from someone instead of an apartment complex, you may be able to get a better monthly rent price.

Id say try Liberty City in Miami. Cant go wrong there

I love living in Palm Beach area.

Everything is nice unless you are looking for the ghetto.

an hour from miami, im there every other weekend. and when i come back home it feels much nicer. For the prices you can't beat here its def paradise, anything south is older for the same price and too many people, and in those areas you gotta be either east or really west. You can get sick deals anywhere in sofla right now which sucks cause i bought my condo at a decent price 2 years ago and it wont be going up for 3-5 years but im happy living here.

I would suggest Palm Beach Gardens or Boca Raton both are hopping right now and everything is brand new, i live about 115 mins south/north of both in the middle, but when i stay in wpb its where i go.

traffic is not too bad here, if u lived in boca you wouldn't have to deal with too much at all. town center mall is fucking amazing, i think it may be the best mall i have ever been in.

Aventura would be my pick. Whole Foods is close by. Aventura Mall down the street is pretty sweet and has a movie theater to boot. The beach is very close by but its not teh lots of traffic 'to be seen' beach, its more of the go and sunbathe and hangout beach. The area is very good in terms of crime from what I can see. The only thing that turns me off about that place is the old jewish people who are crabby and give waiters a hard time. Other than that, very nice neighborhood

ugh after a year in beachwood, ohio, i cannot comprehend anymore time with jews...i'm done.

well south florida is loaded with them from boca to hollywood to sobe, there is no escape. and im not an anti-semite but most are by and large a self important and an insufferable lot...

Posted by MeLLyMeL on May-16-2008 13:42:

1- you are going to need a car. I don't know how anyone can live in south florida without one. [unless u live on sobe.. i think that one is do-able]

2- Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Miami Lakes, Coral Gables. I like them all. Ft Laud is a bit too far for my taste. lol I dunno how Rzo treks it to downtown miami from WPB.

About the jews.. ALL the jews from NY flock to Aventura for the cold months. Live in Brooklyn for the fall and have HUUUUUUUUUUUGE SUMMER MANSIONS in NJ. So aventure & sobe are the biggest jew places but really.. it's not even half as bad as if you were living in NY. I feel as though I have practically converted ok??!~!

I agree with #2 above....

I've lived in Miramar(south broward county, a little inland), pembroke pines(just north of miramar), sunrise(20 min northeast of pembroke),

Don't live in liberty city.

If you plan on working in Aventura mall, aventura is a little on the expensive side...you will definitely be pushing that 900/month...ummm....

I can ask around gets some insight from some of my friends that live around the area...but definitely your best bet is broward county it is in the middle between palm beach and miami....

some places in hollywood, florida are decent...just two towns north of aventura....
