Kenneth Thomas - Riders On The Storm - Andy Moor, Matt Darey, Gareth Emery Support

Dissident 004
DS29004
Kenneth Thomas "Riders On The Storm"

1. KT's Original Journey Mix
2. Brisker And Magitman Remix
3. Darin Epsilon Remix

Just in time for a hot summer here in the Global North (and well suited to warm up the winter floors of our brothers and sisters in the South)! The latest single from Dissident Music features no less than rising Perfecto star Kenneth Thomas with one of his best tracks to date. Paul Oakenfold himself has tipped KT to be the next big thing, including him on every Perfecto tour since since 2005 as well as selecting him to mix the next installment of the huge "Perfecto Presents" mix series. He is also one-half of production and DJ outfit Air Hustlers-the other half being Dissident label honcho Noel Sanger. With releases on Armada, Hope, Baroque and many more, KT has made an enormous mark on the world's dancefloors and this is only the beginning.

"Riders On The Storm" is Kenneth Thomas in pure progressive glory: Deep, emotional, electronic and melodic - with a solid groove that will appeal to prog-house and trance fans alike. The ever-amazing Israeli duo Brisker and Magitman take the reins for their mix and turn it into a twisted bit of heart-pumping electro that is absolutely HUGE on the dancefloor and still maintains all the feel and emotion of the original. Last but not least, Chicago DJ Darin Epsilon makes his Dissident debut with a housier interpretation, swingy and sweet in all the right spots, still packing quite a punch. All three mixes are guaranteed to make waves wherever great dance music is played!

...into this house we're born; into this world we're thrown. Like a dog without a bone; an actor out alone.

Does anyone think of anything else BUT The Doors when a song called Riders On The Storm is brought up?

B&M Remix sounds like the pick to me, but all three mixes are good. Nice release

What's "The Doors?" wasn't that a movie in the 90's? I think Val Kilmer was in it. Does this Jim guy have something to do with that movie?

Sorry I was just in grade school when that movie came out so I don't really remember.

BUT KT's TRACK ROCKS!

LOLZERS. I post like an alt under my own name. what can I say?

No... I am quite a bit older than that... Let's see, my first productions were released in 1992, so... Do the math =) I just look young. Clean Living, I guess.

Actually since I have been playing instruments since around 1982, it would be hard for me not to know who the Doors were. I just never ever got the near-religious devotion for Morrison. I like to pretend there were no Doors. In my world, in fact, there never were.

I have no idea why KT chose that titled for the track but it's fine with me. Jim's gonna have to haunt me if he has a problem with it and then all you Doors lovers are gonna be jealous anyway because I got to meet Jim Morrison and he sold me some acid...

good track though, right?

Just like Ghost in the machine a la The Police.

Just wait til you hear his new album zenyatta mondatta.

Posted by summermadness on May-16-2008 07:58:

I heard all three mixes, but I really like the darin mix the most. It has a lot more smoother and "moodier" bassline than the brisker mix.

I don't know, just more my style I guess

Posted by KennethThomas on May-16-2008 20:00:

hehe... Yall are funny.

To address some concerns on here, im honstly am not familiar with the original "Riders on the Storm" from the Doors. Yea, i know who Jim Morrison is and The Doors, but never really listened to them much nor can name any of their songs. To be honest, i think Timo Maas used the title first on a dance track... I honestly named it cause it has a lot of melodic directions going on for a proggy chunker. It felt like i was Riding the flow of the different melodies while writting it and the term "Riders on the Storm" is a classic term (probably from The Doors track, but again, i didnt know that, ba waheva)

I think Brisker & Magitmen really killed it on their remix. They kept most of the original harmonies together but added an AMAZGING electro groove to it. Steller! Was actually licensed to my forthcoming Perfecto compilation before the delay on that release due to other issues (see my blog on myspace for details on that...) Darins mix is also very nice, a really nice warm bassy progger.

So yea yea yea, fun stuff, hope you enjoy! Go buy it, www.beatport.com. If you steal it Jim Morrison will come back from the grave and eat your left pinky toe. And not the cool young Jim Morrison on the CD covers but the fat old run down one...

Don't feel too bad.

I recall my first coming across that track due to playing Need For Speed: Underground 2, with Snoop Dogg's rendition of the track featured in the game.

Posted by darin epsilon on May-17-2008 16:07:

Honestly, I have to say Brisker & Magitman really impressed me with their remix. This is by far the best production I've heard from them. They kept the music very simple but it works! Total destruction for the dancefloor. Simplicity is often the hardest thing to achieve in art. I've been playing and supporting this heavily.

As for my own remix, I gave it a sort of alternative rock feel as sort of a reference to the Doors. There are guitar amps on the main lead and I even tried to mimic a real bass guitar. I thought KT had an excellent melody in his original mix, so I brought it out more and placed more emphasis on it. You can pretty much hear the main theme echoing throughout the entire song, sometimes at different volumes. In the middle of the song, you can hear some white noise crescendo, which is supposed to represent the "storming".

Quite like all of the mixes, so it'd really depend on what kind of set I was playing to figure out which I'd play. Either way, quality release; keep it up guys

Liked yours the most out of the three Darin. Just picked it up.
