Instant messenger lost its appeal?

I used to be addicted to IM. Nowadays I can't even remember when I stopped using it. Perhaps, part of the reason is switching computers and not having it start automatically... But even so, I have lost interest in IM. Especially now that there's Facebook, although that's also becoming boring... Anyone else feel the same?

Get more interesting IM friends!!!! Then it'll be barely bearable.

I liked ICQ. Then everybody started using MSN, and neither my computer nor I got along with that program very well. I tried to use Odigo to fix that problem, but then Microsoft trying to dodge connections from other IM's or something.

I use Orkut just to stay in touch with friends and post in the nerdy communities, and I spend at most 10 minutes a week.

I've been using Pidgin forever: gmail, aim, msn, icq... what not. Same thing.

and I used Skype for a while, with webcam... then it got boring too

Hm, that's a good point. But if I meet interesting people worth talking to, I'd rather go somewhere and talk, like hang out at a coffee shop and discuss whatever the hell comes to mind...

Pidgin? Gonna check that out.

As for Skype, I used that at work for a while... but it resembles a phone so much that I feel like using it exactly the same way I use a regular phone

I'm a Gemini. Technically, all the signs are off by one at this point (since the horoscope was invented, the galaxy has rotated enough that we're off). I don't generally believe in horoscope, but I can't help but agree with one of my roommates that all Gemini we know (including myself) are fucking nuts.
Myself, I can't sit still, always look for something fun to do even if I'm passing out from being tired, always have to be everywhere at once and experience everything/life to the fullest. Oh, and I never shut up.

I've been using miranda IM for ages. Pidgin looks pretty nice. Does it support sending voice like live messenger (ick) or hotkeys to show/hide the clist or open messages?
hotkeys FTW

I pretty much keep MSN open as habit and to get alerts when I receive emails.

Used to have tons of contacts, now I have four, two of which i barely ever talk to.

+1

It's just a different medium of contacting people.

I actually prefer it in most cases since I'm usually talking to 5 people at once. I use adium right now (which is Pidgin for Mac). I used to run aim and msn at the same time, but that made me pull my hair out. I love how organized Adium is since you can rename people/divide them into groups.

Trillian FTW. Pidgin just pissed me off.

Posted by verndogs on May-15-2008 01:08:

IM comes in handy for me. I'm too lazy to use email to communicate.

Yeah it is nice. Very convenient. Only complaint I found I have with it, as I just did the test call today, is it uses the speakerphone instead of the regular stuff. Not sure if there is a way to fix that, but I will try to.

Yeah, I'll get right on that when I am going to call you next time. I'll spend $1.00/minute.

+1. I am using Trillian Astra (Trillian 4), and love it. It has gotten much more stable in the last few builds. They are still adding features to it and what not. Full rebuild from the ground up.
