-- How do U organize ur Music?
Pages (3): [1] 2 3 »
Sometimes i drive myself krazy trying to organize my mp3 Techno collection. I'm curious how the rest of u TA sort ur stuff?
For example do u classify by:
1. Date
2. Artist
3. Album
4. Genre (jungle, progresive trance, trance, house...)
5. Mood (mello, hard shit,...)
6. Vocals/Instrumental
7. Other
i have techno and trance into one folder called trance...
my goa suff is in Goa trance folder..
all mp3z in a folder named:
ArturoMp3z
cdz have their on folder like: PvD (45RPM) etc...
I have a folder called "Trance" i have more folders in that called: "Mp3's" "New Trance" "Trance to be burned" "trance to be compiled" and "Music Videos" oh yeah, and i have a "randomly downloaded trance to be sorted"
i have very little HD space on my computer, so I always rename the files to "Artist - Title".mp3 so i guess it's in Artist order. I have maybe 50 mp3s at MOST at one time on my comp. SUCKS FOR ME
i have all my single tracks by music genre->artist->track title. i have all my full cds and live sets sorted by artist->album or set title. peace!
This issue reminds me of the movie High Fidelity.
Its a Great movie bout a guy who runs an alternative record shop. At one point in the movie, after he breaks up with his girlfriend he starts to reorganize his record collection by who he was dating at the time he bought the record. Im like the main character, when im stressed out i like to resort my music, helps be bring order to a small part of my krazy life.
Everything electronic I have is neatly organized into mainly two folders, Albums and Singles. I don't even try to separate my music in to genres because to much of it overlaps and some of it just defies classification.
yep youre right! except for me. electronic i put under dance but i also listen to other music too. so my singles are classified in dance, hip hop, rock, ....so on and so on
i have one folder called trance! every track i download i tidy up by renamin and correct any mistakes if nessesary, then i id tag them in winamp coz i'm anal like that hehe! once my lil trance file hits 700mb i burn it off coz i worry about system crashin...paranoid maybe but just imagine..nah i won't even say it coz i got some shit hot tracks at the mo and when ya on a 56k never tempt fate hehe! oh yeh i also have every track and live set typed up on note pads for reference...like things extra tidy!

o my god im @ 99 posts! heres one more to put me into the century club!
nite all
Well i just put them by artist for the non-trance songs
Nelly furtado
Acda en de munnik
Eddy zoey
Bla bla
I recently put all the trance in one big folder
Its called Trance
I also have listened to all my trance.. got rid of the really bad ones, im trying to give them their full names now... A LOT OF WORK.
And i just put all my trance in winamp. And decide what kind of playlist im gonna make. ONLY HARDTRANCE? Than ill make a playlist with only hardttrance. After having made that i make another playlist with a selection of only the best hardttrance ive got. Thats how i work
cd-rw it all
i got all my mp3s in alphabetical order by artist name, burned on cd-rw's, so i can always add new ones, all my live sets burned on cd-r's. like cheesenip, i got little hard drive space, but i don't listen to music on computer anyways, i burn cd's every chance i get, cause i'm always on the go...
>JM<
i have one folder called Full Albums
in there i just have folders for each album then all my singles just go on the base "Full Albums" folder.. i name the tracks by
naming and order
Well, I simply have a folder called Singles, and one called "Albums And Compilations", this is only electronic, but 95% trance...
As for the naming of the files, here`s and example of how I do it:
Electra - Hear Me Feel Me [Liquid Child Remix] <-- tnx skysc!
anywayz, no shitty underscores or dots, when it`s finally on my hardrive, it`s destined to stay there, and I don`t need it to be "site prepared"...
for my vinyl..
i have an Excel database.. with headings
Artist Track Genre Promo Remixes Release notes personal Rating Price
lol.. how sad eh??
and yep.. i enter EVERY one of my records in there lol....
ummm..
mp3.. i put em into ma lil folders:
trance dutchtrance top traxx ambient hard progressive vocal vdm/ferrycorsten airscape
lol
I also have a excell file for my albums/livesets (850+), Videoclips (75+), Vinyls/Single Sets (60+)... I first sort out on genre (Dance, Rap, Pop, Hardcore), then on artist, album/liveset name & date... And I also have colloms with time, cd #, MB, additional info and year...
I listen to trance and hip-hop mainly, so i got two folders, one for trance and one for hip-hop. I also cant stand pointlessly long filenames, so i just make the m bklunt and to the point (artist - title) as opposed to them ones that have the album name, the track name, the genre, the date, and the last time the artist took a shit etc etc on em...
Peace
mine isn't as complicated as ya'll.
i just have all my trance mp3s in a folder titled mp3s in my documents folder. hehe. the only mp3s i got are trance, techno, industrial, dnb...etc. electronica.
hmm... I never keep .mp3-s, just decode and burn them to Cd-s 'cause my car is the only place where I can listen to the music with pleasure :-)
Alright my hard drive is a mess.
\upload2
^^ Where all incoming uploads come from various Ta's
\newvids
^^ Where I place new vids I downloaded/have not yet burned
\newmp3\mixes
^^ Livesets
\newmp3\filtered
^^ All tracks that will eventually be renamed & archived
\newmp3\#passed_tests
^^ All tracks that sound good and are almost good enough to keep but need to listen to em again
\napster
All my napster incoming junk
And then the stuff I keep:
Music Categories (by dir)
\mp3\
Ambient
Dnb
Eurodance
Freestyle
Hard House
House
Jungle
Latin
Popular
Progressive (trance)
Rap, R&B, Hip-Hop
Rave & Hard Trance
Slowjams
Techno
Trance
...Within each dir if a certain track/mix stands out then I put an = in front of it so it shows up first on my dir listing... the better it is the more ===== it has in front of it.
So if you see a track on napster with ======artist_name-track_name-www_tranceaddict_com.mp3 then that's a song that makes me go nuts.
I also have a list of all Music Vids and stats/specs on each so in case I get a better version I'll replace the bad one:
Mauro Picotto - Iguana
[42.5M]
[03:31]
Picture Size: 352 x 288
Bit rate: 1 433 600 bits/sec
Frame rate: 25.00 frames/sec

hahahaha
all this time i thought i was the only one spending countless hours listening and categorizing my music collection. i just have all my mp3s in one big trance folder. i listen to almost about anything, so i have other folders for them too. i list them by artist - title [remix]. it's very time comsuming and now that i got sum tables, my vinyl collection is starting to grow. i need to figure out a way to categorize my vinyls.
I'm adding my new tracks in an Excel database to. I just fill in the artist - song - remix (optional of course) and the number of the cd which I burned it on. (I keep most of my mp3 on CD-s, cuz my hard drive is way too small.
I don't categorize within genre or style.
