Exclamation How can my job suck so goddamn much? Who has a more stressful job here?

I'm constantly fucking angry and I think I'm losing my mind.

The problem is that we have like 3 phones on busy friday and saturday nights, a handful of people working, and a shitload of angry customers throughout the entire fucking day. This is the reality of domino's behind the scenes, it's the worst of all the food franchises to work for because we handle both deliveries and carryout.

On busy nights your deliveries will take an hour and a half to two hours. Yes, it's true! The "You got 30 minutes" promo is responsible for 95% of our stress. With all the angry women and teenagers calling me, I feel like the world's biggest deadbeat dad.

My manager is a shithead idiot liar who only wants to screw people over whether you work for him or not. His boss is even fucking worse: a loudmouth, spineless coward who asks everyone under him to do the impossible then gets pissed off if they can't.

I only have three co-workers who are tolerable, the rest I either could not give a fuck about or outright hate.

How many more months should I give before I quit, so it doesn't look too bad to future employers? I know nobody expects you to stay at a job for many years in this generation, but what's the acceptable minimum amount of time to spend at one place? Especially a shitty part-time place?

They do not pay me enough for this shit. Even if they did pay more, I'd opt for less pay if it meant less stress.

Working in food service is arguably the biggest mistake anyone can make as a job option. Honestly, what the fuck were you thinking?

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on May-17-2008 20:49:

I have worked with food before -- although not serving customers directly, thankfully -- and I will never do so again unless I am absolutely forced by economic necessity.

If you're constantly angry and not getting paid enough why the hell would you stay there?

Seriously, the world is filled with decent jobs, there's absolutely no reason to stay in a place you don't like.

I'm going to college full-time and I need to build up some funds in my savings account. I've been looking for a job at many places but I never had the right hours or experience. (Either: "Aw man, you can't work full-time/weekdays? I can't hire you" or "You don't have enough experience.") One manager told me that all the people who worked there had NO higher education but a bunch of jobs listed, and I was the opposite so I couldn't be hired.

I'm not about to blow money on trivial shit with the paychecks from this job. All of it's going towards improvement like good clothes (business clothes, heh), finding a new job, better furniture, and books.

Before I leave, I need to make sure I can immediately go to the other job because I don't want to be unemployed while looking.

Like M^2 said, there are plenty of other jobs out there. Why people are satisfied with minimum wage/shitty environment jobs is beyond me.

I guess where you end up is determined by the amount of effort you're willing to put in.

I'm a full time college student with two jobs. One is career based, the other at Pizza Hut (why the fuck did you go to Dominos?). The "not having enough hours/experience" excuse is bullshit. You do have enough hours, you're just not willing to give up your free time. And I think A LOT of places would prefer college students over High School drop outs. Shows you have determination/drive, and at least the bare minimum of brains.

Something I pass on to all my friends younger siblings, etc, is that jobs that are not career based are not worth the fucking stress and commitment you put in. You don't like it, leave immediately. You have nothing to lose and far more to gain.

Egotistical bastard.

Don't worry about how long you've been there. Find a better job and once you're hired in another place, quit on the spot from this shitty one.

I for one will henceforth appreciate domino's pizza this much more, now knowing that the secret ingredient is suffering.

Stress is knowing that if you were wrong or if you screw up, people will die. Having people mad at you is one thing - but knowing that people stake their lives/livelihood on what you create is another.

The main mission statement of where I work is to provide weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy.

Would you like a side of pepsi with that?

Another thing to remember when you have a job that deals with customer service is that there are a lot of ignorant fucks out there...

Posted by mezzir on May-18-2008 02:55:

Where do you live? There's a good chance there's a better delivery place to work for in the area. No chance in fucking hell I'd work for the local dominos, but I work for a place that does as much business as them, does full take out, and has a full restaurant. Dominos employees are assholes and rude, and the people I work with are all fucking amazing, the money's good, and you just kinda learn to deal with the customers. So yeah, think about checking other places in the area.

Posted by Yuris on May-18-2008 02:58:

quit now.

no one gives a shit about that kind of experience anyways

Posted by L.E.N. on May-18-2008 03:27:

Ill never work with food. I finally got a job that doesnt involve the public, with my own office. Never thought Id get away from dealing with the general public. "Customers always right" my ass...usually you are wrong most of the time. At least in field I was working with.

I never have and never will work with food.

Posted by tubularbills on May-18-2008 03:33:

i have a feeling there are a few more jobs more stressful than serving food...

Posted by L.E.N. on May-18-2008 03:35:

Seriously, just quit with no notice. Its a shit job with a bunch of assholes. Screw them over...just leave them hanging on a friday/weekend. I dont think any quality job will fault you for bailing out of a crap job.

Argh, haha...fuck you

Well, I should leave this job soon. Two of my co-workers are gang members (bloods). Hilarious. One literally talks all day about "fuckin' bitches." Don't assume that I used literally incorrectly: he comes in while talking on the phone, works while on the phone, and clocks out on the phone. I wish I could videotape this, it's amazing what comes out of his mouth in front of everyone (he has _NO_ shame). The other one is actually OK.

The thing is, it's not Domino's I hate working for, it's that store I hate working for. I would actually transfer to a better Domino's in a better neighborhood (not for a career, but you know), but staying here would not be good for me. Just a few more paychecks and I'm out of here. It's not like they'll miss me.
