that's just the right question for me

check out

D-Lay - Don't Stop The Motion

it's at 180bpm and by no means hardcore. There was a LOT of trance like this in Germany between '94 and '97
If you like the example, I'll go through my old crates and give you some more suggestions. Also, PM me for info on where to get some more tracks of this style.

Freeform (aka Trancecore) is really fast and energetic. I think it could be the next big thing. Just wait, in a year or two it'll blow up all over the scene! SO much ENERGY!

To hear some of the best Freeform out there, I highly recommend you download at least one of the following sets (I've linked them all. just CLICK away... or "Right Click -> Save Target As" for the non-audiogalaxy ones):

>> DJ Tilzs - Internet Mix 2
>> DJ Tilzs - Internet Mix 5
>> DJ Tilzs - No Boundaries
>> DJ Tilzs - Live @ Animania, Minneapolis, MN (01.12.2002)
>> Kevin Energy - Live @ Adrenalin 2 - this one starts off with Hard Trance and starts crossing over into Freeform about half way through (too bad about the low quality)

As far as tracks you might be able to find on WinMX or audiogalaxy, look up the following:

Energy - Waves of Desire
Energy & S4 - The Baptism
Lab 4 - Reformation II
Sharkey - The Awakening
Sharkey - Product of Society (Hardcore Society Mix)
Rez - Rez Out (Raved Up Mix)
Energy and Blackout - Crazy Styles
Bass-X vs. Scott Brown - Pilgrim (version 2000)
Q-tex - Viroid
Scott Brown - Healing Mind
Breeze & Styles - Future Set

ENJOY!

Sal

hi, I really love this kind of music, but it will not be the next big thing. For me these are only the remains of the old hardtrance scene from '95. The #5 mix for example starts with a track that was released 1995 on Master Maximum Trance Records....
it's just too fast for today, nobody lets me spin this stuff at any party

Well some DJs like Tilzs, Kevin Energy and Sharkey seem to be developing a pretty good following spinning this style. I agree that it is a little fast for dancing, but personally I LOVE dancing to it... I just dance to it at half speed, every second beat.. the same way I dance to Jungle/DnB. Most Freeform tracks have cymbal crash/highhat/snare every second beat that you can focus on while dancing instead of every single beat.

I'm remaining optimistic about the future of Freeform. I'm just starting out as a DJ and I'm planning on starting out my sets slower with Hard Trance (140-150 bpm) and then climbing up into Freeform speeds (160-170 bpm), like Kevin Energy did in his Adrenalin set. I don't think I would ever spin 180 bpm or higher like some Freeform DJs too... that's just a little too crazy even for me.

i always start my sets out with hard tranve and work up to freeform. sometimes i play it all pretty slow other times i just go crazy and can go beyond 180, all depends on the crowd u are spinning too. generally in a club this is a bad idea

I think that's a different type of trancecore than I'm talking about. From what I've heard dutch/german "trancecore" is more like pure hardcore (rawer, meaner, harsher)... not as much of a trance influence, altho I could be wrong... I'll give some of those artists a listen.
