ta couple issues with my Tascam DR-1 digital recorder

Hello, just picked one of these up and noticed some things on the drive home...

The input volume dial doesn't seem to do anything to affect the record volume... the best I can do is adjust the gain setting to low/mid/high.

Also, just a little wind can do a lot to ruin the recording... is there any way to shield the microphone aside from trying to cover it with your hand, particularly outdoors.

Lastly, I guess there isn't much you can do about the sounds coming from pushing buttons and moving yours hands and fingers around the casing... for me it won't matter much as I'm doing short recordings, but what if I wanted to record a whole concert? All that noise from the recorder moving around in my pockets is going to get recorded.

i had a look out of interest, it seems to me that its a very poor design, if its meant to record outside it should include a boomer(? i forgot how this fluffy things you put on a mic is called...) and maybe include a poofer for vocals and close recording, and i would add a spring mechanism to prevent sounds from the case going to the mechanism... but i guess thats all comes down to price... anyway i would try hold it on some fabric to prevent abrupt noises from movement, also, try to put a light fibre around the mics, not attached, but half an inch away from them, it should reduce the wind and stuff drasticlly... (build some device from toothpastes if your a handyman )

hope ull make it!
