Question All request DJ nights?

Has this ever been done before? I thought I remembered a Guv night where MO did this...and requests were taken in advance?

But what do you guys think? Fun idea, yes? No? Would it work? Or would it be failsauce?

Not sure if this is along the same lines but I would KILL to go to a night that was devoted to the early stuff - 1989 to 1998

I think the TA dj's should speak up...

is it an insult to spin an all request night?

isnt there something around Christmas at the guv, called 'The Gift', where they only play classic tunes (probably from around 1989-1998)

This was basically the case when Andy Moor spun at Viva a few Halloween's ago. A bunch of requests were made in the roll call, as well as at Viva that night. Perhaps this was the reason why his set was so much better than his set in Detroit soon after.

This past year it was definitely not just trance. It was a mix of classics from a variety of genres (mainly trance and house).

Also, that's a classics night....not a total request night.

DJ's being creative and playing what they want > being a jukebox.

I'm pretty sure Barry and NuERA both have done something like this.

I hate hearing people request tracks from DJs...I'm not even a DJ and it annoys the piss out of me.

That being said, I think it could work if it was done ahead of time so the DJ could set up a set that would flow to some extent.

I've heard of people requesting a track and then the DJ playing it like an hour later.... probably so that they could fit it in at an appropriate time into their set

Seems like it makes sense... if I were the DJ I would either say no if I knew it wasnt gonna work...or maybe you would think 'hey that track might be a good idea'...and then throw it in eventually

Highly unlikely.

As for the requests night, I think it would be kind of cool to be honest (if done in advance and the DJ could still have creative control as to what was played).

It would be a breath of fresh air instead of "Can you play hip hop" or "Do you have any Celine Dion?" (play enough gay clubs and you'll get the latter ).

Yeah I should have clarified...it would be an ask in advance thing for sure.

I think it would be awesome!
