protecting speakers

I just got some new Mackie active speakers. I'm wondering if there is something I can put between the master out of my mixer to and the speakers to protect them from damaging levels/frequencies.

What kind of unit does this?

Those speakers have built-in protective circuits. Check your manual, they have a light that comes on when you are hitting the limits.

Also check the Mackie forums, some very knowledgeable people there. They can give advice.

Wish I had some of them speaks. But then, I'd be blasting my ears to oblivion.

A compressor (Don't do this). Just watch your levels, and listen to it. If the bass sounds too loose or like there is a clicking noise, turn it down because they were distorting.
