Happy National Hamburger Day!

May 29

A hamburger (or simply burger) is a sandwich that consists of a cooked patty of ground meat and is generally served with various garnish or condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, onion, relish, pickles and cheese toppings, placed inside a sliced Hamburger bun, often baked specially for this purpose, or pieces of bread or toast.

HAMburg ???

Posted by The Ear on May-29-2008 22:44:

I believe it has to do with the old term "Hamburg Steak" which referred to a type of cooked steak tartar in Victorian England.

no search engine there. And sadly, those that know me can verify that I am indeed a font of truly useless information.

Ken Jennings..... I'm gonna eat your children!!!!

lol.

Close. Hamburg steak part is right, BUT it was in Hamburg Germany where it was popular then brought over to the states by German immigrants from that area. Voila the burger was born...
