Trance track. Could help me name it?

Hey guys

Working on this tune, and feedback would be awesome. Used samples from vanilla sky (again) on this one.

Used Cubase, Nexus, Battery, Tau (for bass) and some percussion loops. Been working on Kick for a while so feedback on that would be good... Bass also took a lot of time to do. Please comment on eqing and levels, cause they do my head in. I think the snares a bit poo, so could comment on that

still unfinished, trying to get the melodys etc going properly.

Cheers guys

2.20min 192kbps (i think) MP3 format

Mark

It sounds like something I've heard millions of times
during 2002~04. Not that it's a bad thing..
Is that your voice in the beginning?
It kinda seems odd. I would do without it.
Otherwise, good.

Hey thanks for the feedback, not my voice - its from the film vanilla sky...

Hey man, this is some nice ground work you've done! Sure its got that oldskool Ace Da Brain sound to it, but its still quite epic and could be made awesome with some more modern touches. The bassline is lovely and warm but I think this is what dates the tune a little. Work with some more complex percussion and some more bass layers - some grunty high saws on top to give it some texture, some warm sine underneath, modern trance demands more depth. The washy effect over the pads in the break are nice.

The snare is rubbish! Sorry lol, but it seems you already knew that. Let it out a little more so it sounds more like a snare than a dull clicky sound. Perhaps as the rapidfire snare rises up you could gradually bring in some matching rapidfire bassdrum under it too to really build a frenzy, just a suggestion though.

I disagree actually, i thought the vanilla sky vocals were a nice touch and suit the vibe of a trance track, and I love that movie. Hmm with the whole vanilla sky thing, i woulda thought a good name for this would be something like Perfect Lie or Unwoken..

Hey Buddy
Thanks for some detailed feedback, thats exactly what I needed. Some very good suggestions in there, definately will be putting a kick roll in there thinking about it. Ive always made shoddy basses, and this is an improvement from previous - so im getting there slowly haha, I find that as I improve trance gets better and better without me. im convinced if I made this ten years earlier id have been laughing. The quality is so good now, but that means an incentive to work hard put in the time and effort to try to get close to the high levels.

Oh and that snare is a joke, I know it.... Ill have a look later...

Thanks again, I need the song picked apart for me to be able ti improve it
