at this point i'd say MJ still has the edge, but out of the whole league i'd say only Kobe and Lebron have a chance at overtaking him.

gonna get killed here too i see.....LJ has no chance IMO.

MJ is MJ and Kobe is Kobe, similiar players in different eras, this debate cant really be won. But if we must...

Athletically i think kobe may have the edge. He has a better jump shot adn is a better pure shooter, although his FG % is lower then MJ's, he takes more 3 pointers and simply has a better outside shot.

I think they are equal when taking the ball to the hold. However we must take into consideration that the NBA now allows zone defense, back in MJ's era he didnt face that, and had alot more one on ones. But there was alot more hand checkin allowed in the league during the MJ era.

although Kobe is great, MJ is a better defender, period the end.

And i think mentally, MJ cant be topped. Although Kobe mentally is prob the toughest in the league, i think his attitude problems (which may be a product of LA media/writers to a certain point)have hindered his appeal as a teammate.

All this said, kobe has a way to go in the league, and it appears the Lakers are positioned for another multi year run, so i believe the door is open for him to win over alot of the critics as the "best ever" It appears alot of analyst are ready to do this already after the game last night.

In the end of it, no matter the stats or the rings Kobe obtains, i dont think MJ's value to the league can ever be topped. He took the business side of the NBA to a whole new level, of which i dont think another player could ever top.

What kind of question is this?

Kobe's impact thus far cannot even come close to Jordan's...even after 12 years as a pro!

P.S. Someone should ask Kate Faber this question

Even Larry Bird has said that he will not put Kobe and MJ in the same sentence...MJ is just head over heels over everybody.

If the league allowed the no harm no foul system, I doubt Kobe would be able to score as much. Even those who played during both regimes, so to speak, always say Jordan is better.

And in the more defense oriented league of yesteryears, MJ had a better shooting percentage than Kobe.

im a big kobe fan but i still can not say he's the 'best ever'... to titled better than His Airness Wow... hold yer horses.

Josh is right how you can't compare these 2 players side by side, they both have their own legacy, i like to view em as MJ the Hero and KB the Villain... i think these two completes the best part about the NBA which is un-immaginable talent only possible to be reached by these two basketball immortals so far...

i do believe that Kobe seems more physically gifted than MJ, and he does have more individual talent, a killer jumpshot and 3 pt shooting that is better than MJ individually, his array of shots and weapons are too many too handle...

but... as a fan i define success as championships, as taking your team into the next level, and finally Kobe is able to do that this year... this Laker team looks very 'brotherlike' and it's a joy to watch them to be able to have fun and hopefully win it together

MJ is still the ultimate God disguised as a basketball player in the history of the NBA... Kobe needs to win more championships for him to reach this level... he'll be up there with MJ...he will become the alter ego of Michael Jordan, The Greatest Villain of All Time, the dark side of Michael... both are the greatest of all time!!!

These analyst need to wait on crowning Kobe G.O.A.T... the media is so poisonous, they are your best friend one day the next day they turn on u to become your worst enemy... they tend to give 'titles' too early to many players... for example "KING James"
