I realized that was my first time seeing you in the daytime. LOL "Where did you find the talent?" Classic! and yes you will be back, dropping a set I hope.

JC, I always have a great time at the Aqua Groove parties (well, I've only been twice and had fun both times), but the only reason I had fun was because my friends were there.

Just some advice, get better DJ's. It was like torture for my ears to listen to the crap that was playing yesterday (I left at 5:30pm, so I'm not sure who played afterwards or if the music got better). For example, next week, you should have Deliquent Frequencies play OUTSIDE, rather than that little room. Or if you want more housier/upbeat music... get other DJs that plays GOOD house music. There are so many talented DJ's in LA (a lot of them post on here and you are friends with them). Also, I know David plays wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than what he played yesterday, and the stuff he was playing 2 weeks ago. David knows how to deliver some sick music, but why is he lowering his standards by playing more commercial stuff?

I want to be able to come to Aqua Groove parties more often and actually enjoy the music.

But then again, if music isn't your #1 concern, then disregard everything you read above.

*just some friendly constructive critism*

Thank you Julia but as a broad minded promoter we have to be mindful that 99% of the population isn't into minimal techhouse. Most of our residents can play commercial or very underground as you have heard my broski do before. We had a very commercial audience outside and a very underground sound inside featuring the HAWT crew. I am mindful of these things and I know as good as Matt and Jake are (matt is one of my resident dj's)their sound wouldn't be appropriate for the outside as we are trying to maintain a balance between entertainment and underground appeal. Other than that it looked like to me that everybody had a blast and are coming back for more.

Funny thing my brother gets slammed for playing too underground by some or too commercial by others. LOL He played to entertain as did Steve Prior and Aaron Michael who did an excellent job.

Well at least 99.99999% of the crowd seemed to pretend to be into it.

im also that kind of dj that has to know the balance between commercial/accessible and underground. I spin straight up underground sounds on my podcast, and at my residency on Saturdays here in SB I play house remixes/mashups. You can never completely satisfy any crowd no matter what u do. I do my homework before any gig and learn what crowd im playing for and then prepare my style for that particular crowd.

Thats cool JC that you have music for everybody at your pool party.

i think that was my favorite D-Mo set to date. Nice mixture of house and tribal, pretty much what we heard in the electronic music mecca known as the WMC. . .

Posted by Jake Benson on Jun-03-2008 08:36:

I love you JC.

I went in mid-May....the Shush crew was AMAZING as usual.

So hey if I spin Butts3x Bossa Nova music will you book me OUTSIDE PLEEEEEZ????

I've been meaning to check these out sometime, and this maybe the perfect week, since I'm sure I'm going to need a "Post-Kaskade" recovery party ...

It doesn't have to be minimal tech house or underground music... You can still play cool/happy/upbeat house music that would be perfect for day time pool parties and that crowd... and not annoying-cheesey-retarded-old-played out crap.

The moment I heard that Warp Borthers song on Sunday (I think Aaron Michael played it), I was like ok THAT'S IT, my hang over from last night is getting worse, and I have GOT to go home now. lol

I think it was Josh Wink - Higher State of Conciousness (dirty south rmx)

and tbh, i think that song got the best reaction out of the crowd out of his entire set LOL.

geeeeze Julia, you have to understand that your taste in music is in the EXTREME minority, even i thought it was decent. I thought steve played some good stuff later, but i guess you were already gone by then

I can't fault a DJ for playing the tunes that get 99% of the crowd moving. After all, this is Los Angeles and it's a hard crowd to please.

The beatport pool party in Miami was mostly minimal and tech house, yet the crowd was into it. Maybe it's because of the europe influence that comes to town that week or something like that but I was so excited to see that people actually had an attention span long enough to roll through the DJ's journey. Something I'm not used to in the USA.

Granted I don't play "cheese", I still think it's possible to work a crowd into a frenzy without playing the top 10 of the week. If people can control the A.D.D. tendencies for a little while, the set might just pay off in the end

Listen to digweed play a set outside of the states. 3 hours of kick and snare before you get any melody at all. He makes you beg for it but towards the end of the set you might be a believer. I'm just saying.

All opinions aside, I'm looking forward to these events and playing them as well. Nice work JC. Keep it up!

next time am asking the dj's to play SEXY BACK REMIXES and anything from STARKILLERS and that P.A.T.T. Record that everybody loves. Ok, so you'll find me in the deep end of the pool trying to drown myself at the bottom but that's the shit people wanna hear.

I SECRETLY LOVE THIS TRACK, HELL I WAS YELLING THE SHIT ON NYE, TILL MY FR...I MEAN THE FIRE MARSHALL STOPPED THE MUSIC.

Maybe I'm misreading your posts, but you sound kinda like a bitch. I wonder what you look like.....pics pleeez.

...Ok so I sorta agree with you secretly. If it were my party it would be all deep house and Deadmau5 (I admit I love him....) I wasn't there on June 1st tho so I can't say much.

No, it was definetely Warp Brothers. It's called Blade, or something like that. They used to play it on KIIS FM on saturday nights, when I was in high school lol.

This is the song I'm talking about that he played on Sunday (Warp Brothers). *barf* But he might have played a different remix of it, i dunno...

Posted by djjoshuaallen on Jun-04-2008 14:37:

have you listen to the wink track yet? I assure you it was not warp brothers from 8 years ago. They sound alike

No, I haven't heard it. Hmmmm if Josh Wink produced a song that sounds anything like that warp brothers song, he must have been on crack lol

Such as what? You came in here trashed my brother, my party, on the basis you didn't like one song, seriously! You didn't hear all the dj's play to draw your conclusion and if you want to make suggestions we've known each other for years and you have my cell phone number to do just that.

I heard it to and it was Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness (Dirty South Remix)

Yeah I know you don't like that stuff... But they play for the party people who just want to have fun. Most of the people that are there don't really care what's song it is, as long as they're having a good time with their friends/ girlfriends.
